Virgin Media Con

I have been a subscriber to Virgin Broadband, TV and Phone for a year.
When it came to the end of my contract I was going to cancel because:
We regularly were without broadband or it was very slow
Our TV recordings were usually cut off 5 minutes before the end of the programme
The V+ box was painfully slow to load.
At the last minute virgin convinced me to stay by providing a new V+ box and checking the broadband connection.
Now after loosing my internet again and missing the end of strictly I rang virgin up to find out I had been put on an 18 month contract!! I am 99% sure I never signed up for a 12 month contract let alone 18 months.
For an 18 month contract I would want an amazing deal- which I don't have. Also I noticed when watching some of the channels, they had on the screen-from the (some date that I didn't pay attention too) this channel will no longer be part of your package!
So in summary I have:
18 months of contract
Partly recorded TV programmes
Temperamental broadband
Less channels than I started with
A slow V+ box
Un happy feeling with my TV/BB provider
Has anyone got any advice about where to go from here?
P.s. Im using a 3G dongle to send this as again I have no internet.
Thanks

Its not a 'con'
New contract is standard with new packages/equipment
You need to adjust your V+ to add padding to you recordings - this can be done through the help menus ont he V+ box
Less channels, call them and ask them what they can do about that?
Your V+ box may need a format if its still struggling, help can do this remotely.
You should get goodwill credit for outages, call them and report it, requesting credit for the days without service.0 -
Any upgrade with VM starts you on a new (minimum) 12m contract. No free lunch, and no free laptop0
-
Nonsense, if you did not agree to an 18month contract then clearlt the contract has not been made, ask them to provide proof of this contract.
Also read the T&C you initially agreed to.0 -
Was this an "upgrade" or just a replacement box?:pB&SC No. 298
Life`s Tragedy is that we get OLD too soon

just read this and i have to say ive had a similar thing done to me,i was on the full package and was out of my 12 month contract but just wantd to put the package down to a cheaper package,i wasnt upgrading i was downgrading removing the sports and movies, cheaper package all fine i thought.
then get an offer from sky and phone virgin up to cancel and told i was put into a new contract that i knew nothing about,im 110% sure the virgin person i spoke to didnt tell me it was a new contract otherwise i'd have cancelled there and then and found a better deal or waited for them to call back with an offer!
seems this is hapening to a few people, can we phone up and say prove we agreed to a the contract as i never signed anything and if they have a recording i know i wouldnt have agreed!0 -
We got rid of all VM TV and it was explained our new much cheaper deal was for 12 months.0
-
wish they told me that!
i'd have definately cancelled and got a better deal either by retentions or go sky.0 -
I have been with VM for years, deal hard with them, make comparisons with the competition and sus out if the person you are talking to is some jobsworth before you let them know quite why you are calling, if so put down phone and try again (if you have a spare 15 min's).
Just over a year ago I knowingly entered into a new contract, they sent me a letter detailing start date, 7 and 28 day cool of/get out info and on page2 contract term and product price breakdown (try to ignore the bit where they tell you how great they are).
Good Luck0 -
ive managed to get a half price 12 moth deal from sky so gonna go with that and put virgin down to the min for the remaining 6 months which is annoying as i didnt enter into the new contract knowingly but really cant be bothered with the hassle of them taking me to court etc, whats the min i could put my package down to inc broadband etc?0
