Problems with tv signal

Hi everyone,
I am having on going problems with my tv signal.
Firstly it was if motobikes etc go past
Now more recently the signal has gotten worse
I had someone round today to see what the problem is my aerial is in the loft.
They have recommended a new aerial and booster.
House is about 7 years old and I got a booster when I moved in 5yrs ago.
Could it really need replacing?
They quoted £150 for new aerial.
Could I get one myself & fit it? As it's in the loft I assume this will be easier than on the roof.?!
Wuld greatly appreciate advice as its driving me crazy.
Other option is just to use freesat & get it put in my bedroom as it's currently only in the lounge
Me neighbours either have sky or virgin so can't really ask them plus I'd like to be free to use all the tv sockets in the house i.e kitchen etc

Main issue seems to be from unshielded parts in your install suffering from impulse interference.
£150 just for a loft aerial install seems to be on the high side and may not solve that problem, get some more quotes before work starts from CAI or RDI-lb members.
Freesat my be cheaper £50ish for an SD box or £80+ for HD plus cost of cabling from dish £45-65 depend wether you need a new LNB.0 -

The aerial being in the loft may be the problem (it reduces received signal by 50% or more depending upon house construction).
I assume the £150 quote was for supply and fitting of an external aerial on an appropriate pole, new high quality coax and supply and fitting of a masthead amplifier/distribution system and power supply so the other sockets can be used. If the answer to all those is yes, then, IMHO, £150 is expensive but just about acceptable.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -

I have cable tv from VM but I needed freeview for a second set.
Well I found an ok aerial in a skip in my road, stuck it high in the loft on an adjustable bracket, pluged aerial into an old portable tv in the loft and adjusted for best pic.
Ran some decent new coax cable to new LG freeview tv it worked a treat all channels.
I am at the bottom of a hill and shadowed (if thats the right term) from the transmitter. There are some usefull web pages that will let you check out your home to transmitter situation, dig out that compass.0 -

The weather can affect the signal. It may improve with different weather. I've fitted a few loft aerials which have worked well. Try different parts of the loft. Having clear space in front of the aerial, including setting it back from roof joists helped.0 -
Hi everyone
Thanks for the help
I have fitted a new high gain aerial today and am now getting 89%
Tv is fine upstairs but downstairs on my main set it says signal 89% but channel strength 50% and is breaking up. Plus its only found 6 channels
I'm gonna spend some more time up there at the weekend and invest in a new bracket to try different locations.
Is there any other reason why my tv is acting up?0 -
I have an aerial inthe loft too and soemtimes my channels will go off and I get the radio world service! I have to turn off at the plug and back on again. £150 sounds steep though to me - definitly get more quotes. For £110 , I think, you can get sky in and just get the free channels.1,2 & 5p: Christmas day food £9.31
10 & 20p: misc savings £2.70
50p: Christmas presents £3.50
£2: holidays £2.000 -
B and Q are doing an HD FTA satellite kit including receiver, dish & 10m cable for under £60. There's 2 on offer at the same price. The Techsat kit seems to be slightly better spec'd than the Ross kit. It has a front channel no. display. The kit is NOT Freesat so will not order the channels for you. You have to sort the channels in the order as you want them, also there is no EPG that is of any use. One big plus is if you insert a memory stick in the USB slot you can pause live tv and record programmes."...IT'S FRUITY!"0
