Homeless and need to rehome my cat

  • I am sorry to hear of your plight.
Now as a land lord myself I would NEVER advise dishonesty......but the thing is that cats are so rarely 'on show' on the rare occasions when land lord would visit a property. I mean, as long as my rent turns up and I trust my tenants I wont visit a property from one end of the year till the next........

I hope you manage to sort something out for her. Such a sad situation but not one of your own making so please don't feel bad as you do genuinely care fore her.
  • What a dilema!

Should I take her and hope that the landlord doesn't find out. She is rarely in the house as she loves being outside, roaming around. We don't have a cat flap and she only comes in when we open the door. She sits there and waits!

Or do I remain honest and upfront about having her with us and hope we don't get evicted for going against what I am allowed

OR do I put her details on an animal rescue site to be adopted by a nice family.

What to do? I'd love to do what paddypaws101 does not advise but I don't want to upset the apple cart and I am a new tenant. I think it's because half of me doesn't want to let her go and I am trying all ways to keep her.

  • Well I guess option 1 could be followed while you keep an eye out for a new home.....
Seriously, a land lord wants a tenant that is staying long term , pays the rent each month and looks after the property. If you do all of that they are not going to come knocking every week to pry in to how you run your home.
  • My landlord knows we have a dog. The black cat that appeared one day while he was fixing the boiler belongs to our neighbours (we live in a row of terraced houses) but we're not sure which ones ;)

The black cat does of course actually belong to us, and is actually three darn near identical black cats that we own and are very fond of. We have acquired all three after moving in, and have been here over 2 years

We do feel guilty about our dishonesty, but we know landlord hates cats! He is a very good landlord, quick to fix any problems. He never has a complaint about us or the house, and stops for a chat any time we bump into him around the town. A very nice fella.

To be honest, I honestly don't think he really cares. He has been in and out of the house a few times, and we keep it well. The rent is always on time, and he knows enough of our neighbours that he would hear if we were causing problems.
  • Update:
I have found a new home for my cat! She is going to live with a lady my mam knows who lives in the same rural village. I have met the lady who seems nice and friendly. She is going to give me some photos of my cat when she has settled. She has cats of her own as well as rabbits and dogs. It's sad knowing my cat belongs to someone else but I know I have made the right decision for her. She deserves a home with someone who is going to look after her.

Following links that everyone suggested, I ended up with three offers of help for her. Two were from cat rescues who I am grateful to for offering their help especially as I know all animal charities tend to be overrun with animals needing homes at the this time year.

redd1800 very devious! I couldn't live with the stress of worrying if all 3 came into the house at the same time!

Thank you to all of you for your suggestions. As I said in the opening post, I have followed this forum for years and have never felt brave enough to post before - but I will now!!

I will give you an update when I have a home of my own. I have shown interest on a house and paid the holding fee. I'm waiting for the landlord to do the various financial checks (nerve racking time but I know it'll be ok) and then I hope, it's all systems go and I will have a home for Christmas.

I'm so glad you've got a good home for her and that it's someone your Mum knows.

Hope everything else works out for you too and that you have your new home very soon. :)
