Homeless and need to rehome my cat
Comments

hi hun
can you pop a post on purrsinourhearts forum? i am a member on there and there will be people who may be able to help point out local rescues in your area.
i cant belive you are unable to get goverment housing...you should be getting support not having to worry about all this***MSE...My.Special.Escape***0 -
Florence27 - Never thought of the Dogs Trust even though my dogs came from them! Will also check out Cat Chat’s website - thanks.
Marisco - your an angel for offering but I think you have your hands full with 2!
SnowyOwl - Will check out the Cinnamon Trust. My new landlord is allowing us to keep our dog (we have 2 and the other one is staying with my sister who unfortunately is not able to house our cat). Sounds like I have a zoo but our last property was a large one and we are able financially to look after all of these.
LisaB85 - will offer £200 for a pet clean and see if that will work - thanks for replying.
georgiesmum - will follow up the Cat Chat. Thanks.
Kimberley - seeking out another private landlord who would let us keep our cat is not as easy as it sounds. We have looked at over 50 properties and this one suits my needs and we have been in the homeless shelter 3 months already and it's far from ideal but thanks for replying.
Gingham R - your an angel! I am able to drive so getting her to Sheffield wouldn't be a problem just heart-wrenching! Thank you for offering to pay for food but I see that as my responsibility and would happily do that until she was re-homed. I cannot believe the kindness of some people when we have lost our house due to hate crime. It is definitely helping restore my faith in people.TTFN :wave:0 -
I thought I'd post a bit more about my adorable cat.
What does she look like? She is white with ginger and black splodges. Tortoise-shell (uk) and calico (USA). Apparently all cats this colour are female.
Is she spayed? Yes and micro chipped. She had kittens in the animal shelter at 5 months old! Kittens very cute but we thought poor mum needed us more so she came with us!
What sort of personality? Very friendly and likeable. Bit wary but once she knows you, you're in!
Does she like being cuddled? Yes but only on her terms! She loves having her tummy tickled and will roll over like a dog to have her tummy rubbed.
Is she shy? No, as I said once she knows you she's fine. She's not nosey and will quite happy lie around when strangers are in the house.
Does she like other cats? I'm sure she'd be fine. Our next door neighbour had a cat and they seemed to be ok with each other.
How is she round friendly dogs? She has lived with 2 big dogs and put them firmly in their place when she came to live with us! She can definitely look after herself around dogs.
Does she like children? Likes children as she has lived with one. Obviously you need to keep an eye on younger children as they are flighty and this can scare her off. She doesn't like being chased by children!
How old is she? Not exactly sure but she must be coming up to two. Different vets (the animal shelter and ours) have a difference of opinion about her age but she's still quite young.
Does she have any health problems? No none at all.
And how long will the council cattery be able to keep her for now? Until my say so I am assuming as no-one has said otherwise. She is in a police cattery as this was the only available place at the time. We had to leave our house very quickly due to hate crime. Unfortunately because of this, we have not been able to see her or contact the cattery as the police will not tell us where she is. Must be because they house the police dogs there. She has been in the cattery since early September.
She is a lovely cat. She loves the outdoors but will use a litter tray quite happily without making a mess. She loves her food and ham! She has never brought me a gift so I don't think she's a good mouser! Just as well because I'd die if she had brought me a gift and I wouldn't know what to do with it! She catches butterflies very well and loves lazing around in the sunshine.
Hope that helps to describe her.TTFN :wave:0 -

Will look at purrsinourhearts forum?
We are getting help with council housing but we are waiting for a direct let and it's taking ages that's why I am looking at private lets as I need to re-house myself and son as quickly as possible because it's not doing our mental health any good. I also want to be with our pets as quickly as I can because I know collies suffer from anxiety and separation and it's not doing them any good at all!TTFN :wave:0 -
Got a possible lead. Obviously, trailing to Sheffield isn't ideal, but will know within a couple of days whether there is someone here happy to help. Fingers crossed. It looks promising.Just because it says so in the Mail, doesn't make it true.
I've got ADHD. You can ask me about it but I may not remember to answer...0 -
Many thanks for making enquiries Gingham R.
I honestly cannot believe the help, support and suggestions on this board.:A :T
I have looked at all the other suggestions and have been busy this afternoon preparing a pet CV. Lots of helpful advice and tips on Lets for Pets Dogs Trust. I am a bit nervous of posting an enquiry on Cat Chat and Purrs in our Hearts, simply because it was sad to read so many animals needing homes and I am only adding to that. But at least I can sleep a little easier tonight. Still miss her loads tho..

Did you get her from a rescue originally? If so, please contact them as many of them never relinquish full ownership of their animals: in that they will always take them back.
Otherwise here are two other links for you

Good luck, and such a shame for you all

Sorry to say I've had no luck. The people I know have said that there are long waiting lists and all the foster homes are overflowing.
One did say though that she's never had trouble rehoming a cat by putting dozens of adverts around in busy local shops and vets - with a picture of the cat on them.
I wish I could have done something constructive here. Good luck with your search for a home.Just because it says so in the Mail, doesn't make it true.

honestly the people are lovely on purrs, in a case like yours its not a case of you are neglecting your cat..you just dont have a choice in being able to keep poor purrball:(
you may be lucky in finding a contact on purrs from your local area who can help and at least if you can get your purrball into a decent rescue or even a direct rehome you will know its from a genuine cat lover and not someone who may reply to a freead on a whim then forget about the cat after a month when the novelty has worn off.
sadly in life we cant predict what the future holds....and you are obviously a caring owner to want to get the best solution. xx***MSE...My.Special.Escape***0 -
Many thanks everyone for the links and advice. I knew I was doing the right thing posting on this board.
My prospective landlord will not allow us to keep our cat, only our dog (he will only let us have 1 pet). I know its looks heartless choosing our dog over our cat, but I know cats are easier to re-home than dogs. It's nice to see that no one is judging me by making this decision. Hopefully I'll find her a home either through advertising or a rescue, because she certainly deserves a nice, caring loving home.
I will keep you all posted about our home situation. This is something I hope I NEVER experience again! It has been a mentally tiring, exhausting, depressive time for all of us.TTFN :wave:0
