Homeless and need to rehome my cat

Hello! I have been a moneysavingexpert follower for a long time and have never posted a message before so in this respect I am a newbie!
Unfortunately I am living in a council homeless shelter and my cat is currently in a cattery (council paying for this). I have been in here for 10 weeks and it's not looking good at being re-housed with the council as I am a permanent wheelchair user and there are no adapted properties. I am therefore looking at private and I have seen a property but am not able to take my cat.
I have kept pets for years and all have been rescues. I really need advice on what to do as I cannot keep her and I feel as if I am abandoning her. I have tried to persuade the landlord but it's a definite no and unfortunately my main priority is finding a home for my son and I.
Can anyone please help or signpost me to some help. As you may gather from my username I live in the good old north east of England.
Watching in hope!:D

Could you contact rescues like Cats Protection? Some have foster carers that may be able to give your cat a temporary home. The insurance if you have it may pay for a cattery too, but i'd try rescues.0

Sorry to hear about your situation but you’re not abandoning her, you don’t have a choice but to find her a new home, so try not to beat yourself up over it.
It sounds like you've done all you can to persuade the landlord but the Dogs Trust has loads of advice, for landlords and tenants, just google lets with pets.
If you adopted her from a rescue then they are likely to take her back. Usually adoption papers stipulate that an animal must be returned to the rescue if the owner can no longer look after it.
Lastly, there’s loads of advice on Cat Chat’s website about rehoming, including a search facility to find local rescues and also a forum which has a rescue and rehoming section, just google catchat.
Remember that you’re doing the best you can in a difficult situation so don’t be too hard on yourself...0 -
That is a shame, but you need to sort yourself and son out. Why not try a free ad in the Evening Chronicle, "free to good home" sort of thing? I've already got 2 cats, otherwise it would be welcome here - by me, not my other cats unfortunately!!!0

Maybe the Cinnamon Trust would be willing to help you. If you have a chat with them the worst they can say is no. If they did say yes, then who knows in the future if you change accommodation you could have your cat back. What a horrible dilemma for you. Your new landlord has a heart of stone.0

Thats what I thoughtlandlords can ask for a pet deposit which covers any pet damage and cleaning of carpets which they should do if you move out anyway.
I have rented places that said no pets, contacted them and they agreed cats and caged animals were ok but I had to pay £150 extra upfront for a pet clean after I moved out.0 -
go on to cat chat forum. They are very helpful and i have just re homed a cat from there. Somebody will help you. They do have a fostering service as well but you have to pay for food and other things. But surely if she is alriht in the cattery it would be best to hang on a bit longer ?The cat centres are all full and the RSPCA will just put the cat to sleep.0

I wouldn't advertise your cat free in an advert because this is where those who want animals for dog baiting look in. I have read where these people take cats off the street or collect from people offering cats and dogs for free on free advertising sites. If you do go down that route then be cautious and try to vet the home and people first.
I would personally ask the rescue where you got her from or seek out another private landlord who would let you have a cat if you ensure that any damage to the property will be paid by you.0 -

Geordielass has already explained that her priority is getting into a home with her child - as a wheelchair user her options of finding suitable accommodation are limited. I don't think staying homeless in the hope that something else will turn up is a sensible plan.
I'd have taken your cat if we'd not recently rehomed a dog, Geordielass. I know a couple of people from cat rescues here who never put healthy animals down. I know they could help if someone could help you get the cat to Sheffield? I'd be happy to stump up for the cat's food till it's rehomed.
pm me if that's useful.Just because it says so in the Mail, doesn't make it true.
I've got ADHD. You can ask me about it but I may not remember to answer...0 -
What's she like, Geordielass?
What does she look like?
Is she spayed?
What sort of personality?
Does she like being cuddled?
Is she shy?
Does she like other cats? (Male/female/doesn't matter)
How is she round friendly dogs?
Does she like children?
How old is she?
Does she have any health problems?
And how long will the council cattery be able to keep her for now?
This sort of info might help with rehoming her.Just because it says so in the Mail, doesn't make it true.
