Ok, I know I'm daft but I have never actually cleaned a filter on a washing machine - where is it?

If you are daft then so am I. I have noticed some people have a little box at the front of their wm which I believe is the filter. None I have ever bought had them and nor does the current one I have, so like you I have no clue.

It'll tell you in your manual :)

If you can't find it - if you put the make and model of your machine into google there's a good chance an early hit will be the manufacturer and most of them have on line versions these days.

Otherwise you could try the link:-

I live in a rented flat and the washing machine is really old and stinky :( Anyway, I saw a cleaning tip on 'How Clean is your House' where they cleaned the machine by running a boil wash with just a mugful of washing soda, and then followed it by a boil wash with a mugful of white vinegar. I'm really keen to try it out and I just wondered if anyone else had done this? Obviously with it not being my machine I don't want to do anything that might permanently damage anything ...

My washing machine repair guy said to put the machine on it's hottest wash with a measure of biological powder (and no clothes!!) regularly to stop build up of nasty stuff and smells. I'm sure you can use vinegar etc....I don't know how/what amounts though!!

ALthough we're all washing on low temps to save money,...it's apparently not so good for your machine...so you should do a regular hot wash to keep it running smoothly!!

Sorry to sound so thick, but when you put soda crystals in the machine (for either a wash or a "clean" of the WM), where do you put them?
    a) in the main detergent bit of the drawer OR
    b) in the drum?

  • I *think* that they just threw them in the drum ... it was a while ago when I saw it lol.

Thanks for the advice everyone ... as soon as I can get hold of some washing soda I'm going to give it a go. Can't see the point of washing my clothes in a machine that smells like somethings crawled in there and died.
