I do clean all the bits I can reach - take out drawer, clean seals etc. I only ever use liquid so the gunk past the drawer must be down to the fabric conditioner.
I ran the vinegar through. It hasn't got off the bits of gunk I can't reach where the drawer goes but the washing I've done since has come out fine so hopefully it has helped clean up the inside. I'll try washing soda in the drawer see if that helps.
Thanks everyone.

My DH used to be a washing machine engineer. He recommendes to do an empty boil wash with soda crystals added in the drawer. Then he always takes out the drawer and soaks it in hot water with bleach. Finally he cleans out the filter which is usually a screw cap at the bottom of the washer underneath the drawer. DH does all this once a month with ours and we've never had any probs.

Sorry if it's a stupid question but thats the only vinegar I've got and my washing machine is clogged up and the clothes are starting to smell (might be being paranoid.)
Thanks for any help in advance.0 -
Yes I've used it on several occasions. Once the machine has been through it's rinse cycles there is no vinegar aroma left. The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

how do you do it? do you do an empty wash or do a normal wash with vinegar in the drawer...sorry if im being a bit thick!!!'' it'll take time to restore chaos...'' G W Bush0

Just stick a good measure of any vinegar in the conditioner drawer and do a normal wash (with clothes in) Hey presto a cleaner washer - and wash.
Make it a mantra and do it all the time. It does work - Honest. The quicker you fall behind, the longer you have to catch up...0 -
I, personally, would do the following:
1. get a cloth and wipe the seals ... getting all the scud off that collects.
2. Check the filter... last time we did this .. we had a 50p / 20p and a baby sock stuck.
3. Do an empty wash with the cloth at 60 degs with the vinegar in the main wash and the fabric conditioner bit too ...

I do the same as Zed does and I use a whole 500ml bottle of vinegar. The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
