I know that I must ask for this to be moved, but I wanted to ask people with debt what they think of the new xmas advert from littewoods.
I think it's really bad that you have children singing about what their mother will buy them for xmas, you then have littlewoods saying pay for it all year round.
Not only are they singing and the song is all sweet, but everyone gets hightech expensive gifts.
Does this just ecourage all of the people on benefits and who just cant afford anything to get into even more debts?
Or am I just to cynical?

I despise this advert because it shows uncles, grandparents and other adults receiving really really expensive presents like ipods, laptops and cameras and trying to make out that it is normal for adults to give other adults gifts like this.
It isn't normal, all the adults i've ever know buy small £20 or £30 gifts for other adults which IMO is plenty.
I agree it is encouraging people to spend spend spend Littlewoods APR is nearly 40% - actually don't understand why anyone would do it?Overactively underachieving for almost half a century0 -
Exactly what I thought!. I don't know if there is already a thread on here or not, but I want it to stop, it is that bad!. Thanks for your support.0

This is why we need to support Martins petition to get personal financial education on the education curriculum.Overactively underachieving for almost half a century0

Oh I am glad someone has brought that up because I hate that advert so much. Its obviously very clever because my kids love it and can sing the song off by heart.
My response to them was was "yeah and what they dont tell you is that lovely Mother will be paying the debt off for the next two years - plus interest"
It just perpetuates the myth that everyone else except our kids will be getting laptops, blackberrys and ipads for Christmas. Not helpful.0 -
I'm with you both!! Here's hoping the new financial syllabus teaches our kids Littlewoods = Capitalistic organisation who preys on those who are weak willed and without money!0

Thanks all - really glad you agree I was a bit worried that someone would tell me im stupid for this thread, if only Martin would write an article on this subject, maybe some people would then realise. Yes I agree with the education, I did support this and will continue to do so!.
Thanks for your msgs, keep it going please...0 -
Oh I agree 100% with all said x My 1st thought when I saw the advert was Yeahhh and My lovely motherrrrrrr will be left in debt of £1000's with 39.9+% interest
having just paid off my Very account and vowing never ever to use catalogues again I think its a shocking advert especially using kids and the 'guilt trip' advertising bad very bad!! glamourising debt can never ever be a good thing!
On the road to financial freedom.... one MSE penny at a time....:T0 -
I hate this advert! In fact I even posted about it. There's not much that annoys me to the point of posting something, but this one takes the biscuit. I didn't realise it was a TV ad at first as I only heard it on the radio.

So glad that you agree, I think that it is so low, I know they need to advertise and make money but this is as low as you can get using children, everyone wants to give their children the best and what they can, but now this is saying they should be.
Does anyone know if any other media have reported on this yet as I really want to get something done, or at least a news report!
Thanks all0 -
I think a few people have reported it.
