My 3 are in bed by 7 every night, unless its a special occasion. I did think about extending the oldest (nearly 7) to 7.30 but he's so knackered by then that he needs to go to bed. My youngest asks to go to bed (he's 2 1/2) and he still has a good 2 hour nap in the day. They're all up by 6.30 but they do that if the go to bed at 8pm anyway. Sleep is so important for children.0

Our DD just turned 13 and is in bed for half past eight every night apart from Friday and Saturday when she is abed for 9pm.
She does complain sometimes that her mates get to stay up much later than her - but I tell her to tell a little white lie about it if she feels the need, that they are probably fibbing too ( thought it was much easier to say that than explain that the other kids parents not giving them boundaries means they will all end up being unruly kids with issues, hahaha!)
She does get up at 7am each day, when she starts getting up a lot earlier I might extend her bedtime, but for now I think she's fine - no TV in her room, but sometimes she goes to bed early to have a read before she sleeps.Member of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19

The 1 year old is in bed at 7 the 5 yr old 7.30 and the 10 yr old 8 (although sometimes it does extend til half past) i truly believe parents need time to themselves in the evening,i have friends that allow their kids to stay up til they go to bed and i wonder when on earth they get time to be a couple (though i suspect a few do it so they aren't left alone with their partner) i babysat for a friend recently (2 yr old) and when i asked what her bedtime was i was told just to take her up when she looked tired !!!!!! this led to her screaming for two hours apparently thats usual!
Kids need bedtimes!I don't get nearly enough credit for not being a violent psychopath.0 -
Surely its up to your friend when she lets her kids go to bed, i dont understand why you feel the need to 'help' when it sounds like its ok with her anyway?
My dd goes to bed between 7 and 8pm, but thats because it suits me, if it was betwen 11 and 12 then that would be up to me too - I would hate to think anyone else thought theuy could tell me otherwise lol.1,2 & 5p: Christmas day food £9.31

My son has always had a regular sleep pattern and goes to bed at 8 or 9 at weekends. He does ok at school and isn't tired all day. Then you have one of my friends children who are allowed to go to bed when the want and she has to wake them for school and they sleep in at the weekends and at 9 and half he is already going to grammar school. So it's not affected him with his education.
It just suits their family to be like that and it suits ours to be more strict with bed times.
You just do what suits you. Don't worry what everyone else does with their kids it'll drive you nuts.0 -

Does she have a facebook account? I tried telling my teenager that his friends are probably lying about their bedtimes, but a lot of them are facebook friends with me and it's true that they post well after midnight on a school night ... they get up in time for school though, whereas mine drags himself up at the last minute and is rarely ready when they knock the door for him.
I know one of the mums and she does have boundaries, it's just that the boundary is half past midnight. This kid is getting up early, doing well in school etc. so it's not a lack of boundaries, it's just that his body seems to function ok on 7 hours of sleep while my son's body does not.52% tight0
