Any suggestions what the OP could be doing, kmmr?
Anything they should be telling the banks / solicitors to do?

Just what they did seems right.

Check the CHAPS payment was correctly coded. Check it has gone through the routing banks if necessary - check the reference. The bank can see the payments in the queue and can 'queue jump' if absolutely necessary. But small payment like this (and it is small in the scheme of things) will go through very quickly and they wouldn't bother queue jumping.

Then look for it at the arriving bank! It's all just process process process, and processes can go wrong for a myriad of reasons.

You have a bigger problem I think if there is a problem with the account details on the CHAPs payment. If it goes to the wrong account (by your mistake in giving wrong details, or details being misread) then the bank may need to wait for it to bounce back. Within the UK that's very quick due to the payment systems - but outside can be a lot longer.

I am sure there will be experts who will tell me the detail is wrong, but that's how I understand it, and I don't need any more detail for my job! When we have fails, I leave it to the middle/back office people to sort it out.
  • Am thrilled to update with the news that I picked up the keys this afternoon :j

I took the children there after school and we had birthday presents and cake for my 7 year old while sat on the floor of one of the rooms, grinning that we have somewhere to make our home again. :D

Thanks so much for all your help and sensible comments! :)
  • So glad to hear the good news - you must be very relieved. Where did they find the money ... any explanation for you and the seller?

Very glad to hear that this has all been sorted out and you're in your new home. Sounds as though you have good solicitors, too.
