No need for the quotes - I would put money on the solicitor really being on the phone doing their damnest to get this sorted out for you as best they can. Believe it or not, right now you are the last person they need to be speaking to - they will serve you best by splitting their time between talking to the bank and the vendors solicitors to make sure this doesn't develop into something worse than it already is.
I know that doesn't help you while you are on pins at the other end of the phone line and hopefully there will be pauses when your solicitor is able to bring you back up to speed on what has been done but hard as it is you do have to be patient and give them time to fight your corner for you. Fingers crossed that it all gets sorted...0 -

I'm guessing our solicitors only have until 3.30pm to sort it out before the weekend (that's when CHAPs closes I think?).
Varies from bank to bank. I've known cut-off's as early as 1pm for CHAPS requests to be accepted.
As time has to be allowed for both sending and receiving bank to process.0 -
Any update on this? Poor OP, I've experienced similar problems when we bought this house and we ended up exchanging and completing at 3.30 in the afternoon when it should have exchanged a week previously and completed by lunchtime. It's a worrying time0

Well if we don't get a reply soon, we can either assume that OP is drowning their sorrows, or is busily moving!
Hope it all gets sorted, OP.0 -
Thanks everyone, sorry for the delay in updating.
Anyway, we haven't completed, and the solicitor's bank is now saying they haven't got the money after all, but our mortgage company's bank has said they've sent it. The good news is that the two banks are talking to each other trying to sort it out but I was told if I hadn't heard that they'd solved it by 9pm, then that would mean the money was still lost somewhere in the system and may mean completion would be further delayed beyond Monday (as they might spend another day looking for it on Monday).
Sonastin - thanks for your reply about my 'on the phone' comment. I didn't mean to imply that my solicitor was doing anything other than trying to sort it out but that I had no way of knowing whether the receptionist was telling me the truth or not. The first time I tried to call (more than 2 hours after she said she'd update me by) the same receptionist said our solicitor was on holiday today!
I'm hoping our sellers have been kept properly informed and aren't too concerned about it all.
Will update again on Monday. Thank you.0 -
Good luck on Monday and, easier said than done I realise, try to enjoy the weekend or at least relax!0

My very best wishes for this to be sorted on Monday for you x0

Yes me too wish you all the best for Monday....another reason i'm thinking of completing on a week day rather than Friday actually. Just in case!!
Have you by any chance got the buyers no, maybe worth talking direct to them to ease any (plenty of ) anxiety they have.
Good luck, everything crossed for you.0 -
It's times like this you'll be glad you have a proper solicitor and not one of those cheap online conveyencers.Like all religions, the Faith of the Invisible Pink Unicorn is based upon both logic and faith. We have faith that she is pink; we logically know that she is invisible because we can't see her."0

Unfortunately we don't - it's an estate sale; and all we know is that the adult children of the original owners don't live locally (at least one of them doesn't even live in this country according to the estate agent). They have, however, been very reasonable during the buying process, and I hate to think they might believe any of this situation was intentional or due to anything we did. This stress and hassle shouldn't be the last memory they have of what was their parents' family home for 40 years
I am keeping my eyes out for a "help our buyers didn't complete" thread on here
