acording to he posts on that thread fredolsen did not call this a market cruise.
pehaps it was a TA misrepresenting it.[/QUOTE]
There are a number of Cruise Agents stil showing this as a Christmas Markets Cruise and I am also in touch with a number of people that also purchased this cruise under this title.
In addition to this there was a paper in the Passangers Welcome Pack in the cabin that clearly stated that this was a Christmas Markets Cruise so it is not a mistake by the agents. This evidence was also sent to th MD with my letter.0 -
Hi could someone please help me find a nice cruise for my mum she needs it to be non flying also this is her first cruise..................;)
Many people have advised the Independance Of the Seas as an ideal choice for your Mum, maybe it will and maybe it won't. I would suggest you delay the cruise until at least spring if you cruise from the UK.
The Canary cruises involve passing thro' the Bay of Biscay, not a good idea in winter. More often than not it will be rough sailing and put her off cruising for life. The other routes involve going north, Norway, Russia etc - they will find it too cold and be stuck inside for the majority of the cruise.
I say again, if possible wait until Spring - May the earliest.
Hope they enjoy the experience what ever decision you/they make.0 -
I think they would like Fred. Olsen. All the food included plus tea & coffee making facilities in the cabins (all Twinings teas, & think it was nescafe- certainly not rubbish tea!) Drinks are pub prices with no additional service charge eg pint lager £3, J2O £2, cocktails about £3.50.Other guests always very friendly. I always go to the evening shows, the quizzes, craft classes etc etc ... I just love sea days!
Tips are £4 per person perday- ie £2 for each the cabin stewardess & waiter. Staff on the ships are lovely, they can't do enough for you especially anyone with special dietary requirements.
Not sure about sea conditions going to Canaries over winter. Got back 3 weeks ago and the weather coming up Iberian peninsula was foul- 40ft waves!
There are always bargains to be had about 3 months or less prior to sailing- the ship is going anyway so they would rather it was full! suggest you sign up for a few weekly e-mails.
If you are interested in Fred.Olsen then the following agents will possibly give the best deals: Readers Offers, Victoria travel, Ocean world travel, Liverpool Travel Club, Bolsover travel club- (I was told of several others but I can't remember them!)
Suggest you also look at Cruise.co.uk & Cruise Critic because you will get cruiser's own opinions.
Hope they have a wonderful time. I only started cruising last year and I am already a convert- you only unpack once and most days you arrive in a new place. Wonderful. incidentally I am a fair weather sailor but just pack my acupressure bands (and a few Stugeron tablets) and i am as right as ninepence!Being polite and pleasant doesn't cost anything!

Forgot to say that in the main Fred.Olsen ships sail from Dover & Southampton, but one (Boudicca) also has regional departures from Port of Tyne (Newcastle), Greenock (Glasgow) & Rosyth (Edinburgh.)Being polite and pleasant doesn't cost anything!
