We do cruises we have been with most of the companies mentioned on here, I am not elderly but the best company we have been with was HAL on a huge ship the Zuiderdam (sp) they spoiled us for other companies the food was fantastic. Saying a cruise line is good for a particular age group is a bit silly, to be honest just because you are 20 or 50 or 70 doesn't mean you like different things or standards. best to work out what is required from a cruise and then find a cruise line that delivers that experience at the budget that suits. We do the trips independently as we are not really into being herded about and paying over the odds for the pleasure, we are not into casinos or really bothered about shows and being entertained, a cruise for me is a chance to relax and see new places without too much hassle. you wake up somewhere else everyday it's great. Hope you find something good OP and your Mum and Auntie have a good time.

You said their were in their 70's - the Indy is much too big a ship with 3500 passengers. RCCL is not reknown as a choice for the over 70's, they are geared up for the younger crowd.

Your best bet is the Princedam sailing out of Dover ( Holland America) in April/May for about £650 for 7day cruise to Norway.
HAL is always the best choice for the elderly.

Try www.vivavoyage.co.uk to narrow down your choice of cruise

Indy is and would be fine for a 70 year old !

    Vivavoyage is a good recommendation.

Thanks for the info their budget is only for the cruise you do get food included don't you :o? (not sure about this bit now:o) they will have about £400 each spending money mam only has the odd drink unless you include tea and then she drinks buckets of the stuff :rotfl:. do you think this budget is unrealistic? I want her to have a good time and not worry about her spending money:o

Cruises will have all food included, some have extra cost eating choices and some charge for room service.

£650 budget will get something and £400 is enough for spends but might need some DIY tour options on a longer trip.

When you find something post again and people can have a look for other options or good prices.

Thomson is OK, but tends to be a little pricy, from Newcastle May onwards HArwich from Oct.

Take your own tea bags,, most cruise ships use rubish tea.

The independance is a masive ship and last time we were on it the dining room service was very iffy.

We went on a P and O Cruise to the Norwegian fjords earlier this year and it was great. All food is included, you just pay for drinks. They should be within your Mum's budget:

Holland America are a good cruise line, and the ships are not huge. Suitable for all ages not just the elderly.

How many 70 year olds go Ice Skating and Surfboarding?
Choosing the right ship is critical, it will mean the difference between a good holiday and a fabulous one.

I would agree with you a little. The key word you use is suitable. Maybe age is not the right description. Lifestyle would be better choice of word to differentiate between the groups of people.

Holland America is more traditional with a great emphasis on quality and the service is more polished which generally is more cherished by the older person. HAL on-board activities will seldomly suit the hyperactive, high energy traveller which is normally the younger age group.

Yes as with anything you need to look at what you want from any holiday, do you want, loads of extra activities, loads of kids, huge ships or something smaller in size.

As we all differ in what we want you need to read all the ins and outs, what you think would suit you and your budget and where the ship sails to and from.

Are you trying to provoke an argument ?

If your criteria is how many x year olds want to do y or z then that x year old is going to be sorely disappointed as most ships have things on them for all ages.

I daresy the Indy has a teen club, but it dont stop adults sailing on her.

    Get a grip.
