I am on Online tariff v3.1, I had a quote off Age concern this week and it was over 30% more per unit on both gas & electricity

I just switched via the Energyhelpline link on this site and was able to switch to the Online tariff v5.1, which was the cheapest recommended to me.

    :D

Glad to hear it. EDF Online doesn't show up when I do a comparison.

Where are you in the UK?

    Hampshire (Southern Electric region).

Currently we are with Scottish Power (dual fuel).

According to this page the Online Energy v5.1 tariff was launched in the Southern Electric Distribution Area on 05/01/2007.
This page implies that this particular tariff is only available in the Southern Electric region.

Maybe they have other online tariffs for other regions.

It appears not - perhaps they are testing the waters.
  • Been with EDF for a while now and they are great, great customer support as well!!

You can send your meter readings to them so you won't recieve an estimated bill. I was over £200 in credit on my last bill and they had no problem in refunded me my credit and reducing my electric payments. Now only £15.00 a month!!!

    East Midlands area!

  • We've been with EDF Well they were London Energy when we joined but it's been a few years, and they are consistently the cheapest I have come across infact, our latest bills came in on Friday and our DD's are going DOWN by £13 per month for our gas and electric. And we get a stack of NEctar points, which we store up and use at christmas. Have no complaints at all.

Edit - just seen the comment by Nelski, yes they do use estimated bills and once put my monthly bills up to about a third more, so you do have to make sure when a bill comes in that you post your meter readings online to get an accurate bill, and monitor your bills just to make sure they're not over-estimating - money's better in your pocket than theirs!

Better still .. that you sign up to providing your own meter readings. That way they email you 7 days before a bill is due .. you put the reading into your account ... and accurate bills every time.
If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !

Does anyone know how EDF work out their electricity rates?

My latest bill (signed up when they were Seeboard and we're on Online v1 Standard Direct Debit) shows the following:-

    29/9/06 to 2/10/06
    Standing Charge £0
    Electricity used: first 7 @ 12.44p
    next 22 @ 6.61p

    2/10/06 to 15/1/07
    Standing Charge £0
    Electricity used: first 22 @ 13.06p
    237 @ 13.06p
    next 895 @ 6.94p

    I'm confused
