  • I've been with edf for 2 years now,(they were SEEBOARD when I joined them) never had a problem. you can e mail and they respond fairly quickly and if you want to talk it's an 0800 number and not a rip off 0870. I regularly go on uswitch and they can't seem to beat edf for the amount I use. You get nectar points credited when you pay your bill and when you send your readings in online( i used mine at argos at christmas worth £25).:j

Same here, EDF are still the cheapest for us, since we switched April 2005.

Called CS a couple of times, UK call centre on an 0800 number, very friendly and very good, didn't have any long waiting.

I use Energy Helpline mainly to check costs, but have used others, don't usually use uScam, but have today to find if they had the right rates for my current tariff.
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!

I've been with them ever since they took over from SWEB which was our local electricity company. I've never had a problem, not sure if they're the cheapest but get a few nectar points etc. I've never had to try customer services.

cheers for those.DID try to post after Martin's program last nite but couldn't access the forums.i've been with atlantic for a fair few yrs now and been happy.i did however checkout uswitch the other day and it said that scottish power was the cheapest-atlantic being next.when 2 guys knocked on the door yesterday afto ( i usually shoo shoo them) they started talking abt EDF and nectar points and fixed rates till 2010.so i came in here and found nowt on them.weird how uswitch isnt showing them as cheapest tho.just spoke with sainsburys and i can do a check on their site ( sainsburys use EDF apparantly).thanx again for the comments

The cheapest tariffs from EDF are the Online ones which used to be available through the comparison sites and only the comparison sites. However at that time they were called London Energy and a few other names which I can't remember. EDF then bought them and they have now been rebranded under the EDF umbrella.

Unfortunately these tariffs don't seem to be available now. The standard EDF tariff and the EDF fixed to 2010 are much dearer and will not come out anywhere near the top.

For example if I was on the standard EDF tariff it would cost me £413pa more than my EDF Online tariff. If I chose the EDF Fixed tariff it would be £476pa more.

As for CS I would agree with earlier comments. 0800 number answered quickly, emails fairly quickly.

The Nectar points are only 150 per quarter or something equally pathetic so don't let that sway you unless you get a lot for signing on initially with EDF.

Unfortunately a few pennies worth of loyalty points often sways people away from £70+ actual savings, crazy but common.

We joined SWEB (EDF) via the comparison sites and got the very low cost rates, that stopped being available to new customers some time back. Even though the prices have risen a couple of times we are still quite a fair amount better off than the cheapest available as a new customer if we switched away.

  • I joined EDF from Scottish Gas back in August last year. The prices were radically lower - but I think I got in under the wire on the online tarriff v4.1 - I haven't seen it available on the switching websites since about two weeks after my switch. I am saving something like £20 per month with them.

Their customer services have been much better so far than Scottish Gas, but obviously my experience with EDF is very limited compared to the years I was with Scottish Gas. The freephone number is a big big plus, and also I never seem to hold for anywhere near as long before getting an operator, whereas I used to feel like I was wasting so much money on hold with Scottish Gas 0870 number.

Online billing is also much clearer than Scottish Gas.
