They may ask for the account to be closed, but they should leave the loan. As long as the loan has not had problems, you would have very good grounds to complain if they ask for this to repaid immediately.

  • Hi, am new so please bear with me ! am considering claiming back bank charges but am concerned that
    1. bank can make me pay back recently taken out personal loan
    2. have been crap with money for years - do I still have a right to claim?
  • Hi All

I am helping my daughter reclaim her bank charges but before we go ahead we are concerned about her loan with the bank
Can they make her pay back the loan in full if they close her account

I did post this earlier but as it is my first time on here I lost the posting or rather the system looks as if it has moved it

Any help would be gratefully received

  • The loan will be a separate account. Supposed the loan account is in good order and all payments are up-to-date, the bank cannot close it unilaterally. They have an agreement with your daughter and if your daughter has stuck to her side of the deal, the bank will stick to theirs.

If your daughter is behind with payments and the account is in disarray, your guess is as good as mine.

  • hi,we have sent our first letter to a&l outlining the charges that we require refunding on our current account. however, we also have a personal loan with them. will a&l force us to settle this loan if we threaten them with court action over the refunding of charges?
    many thanks samandflo

I will move this to the board dealing with claiming bank charges back, someone may have already been through this.

As long as your up to date with payments, it should be safe as it's covered under a seperate agreement.

Hi Jo, Don't worry about the loan, I had a loan &, still went ahead, they don't close the accounts down. just one word of warning, if thats the right expression, make sure you grow your nails & shave your head, cos you'll end up with no nails,& it's less painful to shave your hair off, than pull it out. Having said that, they will take you all the way. I got the afternoon off work to go to court, got there, & I was the only one there, went in, only me & the judge there, all he said was "well mr fartbox it's your lucky day the money will be in the bank by close of business tomorrow, thankyou & good day" well you could have blown me over with a feather. I had just spent longer in the waiting room than I had with the judge. The annoying part was, that they (SCM) didn't let me know til this morning.
    but it was worth it in the end :j :j :j    :j :j :j :T :T :T
Plus me cheque came through for the car, what a weekend.
Thanks for every ones help especially Martin :T :T:money: :T :T
Good Luck It will come good in the end
