Hi Mr_Gordon, good for you in securing a first class ticket, you will love the luxury of being served at your seat, if you are a midweek passenger, if you are travelling saturday/sun then just take your ticket to the buffet car and they will give you a goodybag, you can still have continous drinks any day including the weekend. Have a great trip, I usually manage to get a first class up to the lakes if I book around 10 weeks in advance and its great!
Now to all of us train nutters that stay up till we turned into pumpkins and still couldn't book our seats and incidently still can't more of that in a min. Dickie Branson would have been laughing his red socks off! Anyway up at 6am and was on the phone at 8am on the dot and the net!! the phone was answered after 30mins on hold!!! only to be told the system has problems with vouchers and can I ring back later, it's not accepting my journey details online so I will try later, anything for a deal! anybody else had any joy? want to go from Birmingham/wolverhampton to Euston tomorrow.
Happy clicking!0 -
Booked Birmingham to "Newcassel" for a nice long 1st-class weekend with me Mam and brothers. Haven't been up there for years, so this is a nice cheap guilt-trip fix. The site wouldn't let me book from Milton Keynes though. Still, flippin' good value. I'll feel like royalty (or is that not a good thing?!) Anyway, good luck everyone - hope you get the bookings you want."If you don't change today, your tomorrows will be like your yesterdays"0

I'm searching for journeys from Cambridge or London to Edinburgh on the 25th or 26th March... no luck with Virgin so far!
The site seems quite temperamental, sometimes returning results and other times saying there were no promotional tickets found... lets see if GNER are any better tomorrow.0 -

I got my address wrong three times when I typed it at 8am, that's how tired I was. You have my apologies
SPARKLYBLUE, I'm traveling on Monday morning
This is actually the return leg of my 10,000 Virgin tickets giveaway I received that's going to get me there, then £15 first class back home again. I'm really pleased with this one.0 -
HI again gave up, rang back held for 20 mins, decided might as well just get an ordinary ticket, in the end had to pay £39.10 to Euston hey ho, must escape the laptop for a bit! whoever got a deal, you were dead lucky! have a great trip:T0

I hope in posting this I don't make you more miserable, wish I'd tried this earlier for you.
I've just checked Birmingham to Euston tomorrow and was offered straight away several first class options at £12.50.
Most of the earlier choices are unavailable/already sold maybe.
Earliest is 11:30 and every half hour from there for a few hours. I put in the day after as your return for arguments sake and got an error, I'd missed out the '00' for the minutes on the return times.
Lots more available for the Saturday return if you happened to be coming back that day. These are both Standard Class at £5 and First Class at £12.50.
If I can help at all just say as I'm sure those were the tickets you'd be after.0 -
Mr_Gordon wrote:I had the same problem with Oxford to Glasgow. Eventually went for Birmingham to Glasgow which I found, first class for £15.
My friend has got Oxford to Manchester in March for £22.50 return (first class outward/ standard return, although that leg includes a bus service).
I tried Glasgow to Manchester which was fine for the outward journey, but it seems there are no trains at all running on the Sunday I'd need to get home again. National Express do that journey for £11 single, I may be tempted to use them to get back home although it's 5hrs on a bus
Think I've got a good deal with my Birmingham to Glasgow ticket. I've never been first class before:T:jDabbler in all things moneysaving.Master of none:o
Well except mastered my mortgage 5 yrs early :T:j
