What's the deal?
In association with numerous train operators, the Daily Mail is running a cheap rail promotion, with prices on some journeys as low as £1 each-way. (Also do read the Cheap Train Tickets: how to slash the cost article).
How can I get one?
From the 27th Jan until the 2nd of Feb, there will be 'discount rail travel' tokens in the Daily Mail (usually in the travel section). Collect three of these tokens and stick them to the collector coupon, then fill out the required details. Now you can book a discount ticket for one of the routes offered.
Different routes and operators have different booking methods and offers. To find out how to book for each go to the Daily Mail Promotions Website and look for the discount train fares near the top of the page (the details change every day). It may be a bit of a slog, but if you've recently taken a long-distance train you'll probably know how absurdly expensive it can be; any saving's a bonus.
Anything else I should know?
As is typical of any train promotion, there are many many terms and conditions to wade through. The main ones are:

As is typical of any train promotion, there are many many terms and conditions to wade through. The main ones are:
- All travel must be completed by March 31 2007.
- Tickets will only be valid on the booked, pre-stated seat. They cannot be used on later or earlier trains.
- All offer fares are subject to availability.

Do you actually need to buy the daily mail? I just had a read of the terms and conditions and went to the Southern homepage and they send you a code by email which you use to buy tickets. I just typed my email address in and they sent me the code without me buying the newspaper!
Would you need the coupon when you're on the train or is this a potential loophole?Competition Challenge 2007 - Win your internet fees back in prizes = £349.87/£1560 -
Thanks Martin, I'm in a long distance relationship so I will check this out tomorrow.2008 Comping ChallengeWon so far - £3010 Needed - £230Debt free since Oct 20040

This is not a lot of use for us in Scotland and the company First Scotrail is not included - can pressure be brought to include our local company?0

The Southern website does actually state in its T&Cs that:
DaySave tickets purchased with this offer are only valid when presented with 3 differently numbered tokens from the Daily Mail. Failure to present these on board or at ticket gates may result in excess charges up to the value of the appropriate public fare for the journey being made or a penalty fare being imposed.
Otherwise it would have been a good loophole.
