  • Thanks for all the help people, it was sent to me by someone i knew, ( a boss i will soon be working for) and my post man didnt leave a sorry you were out card twice as i said which meant it was floating around where all the odd socks must go...

today i actually received email of its delivery, back to the sender, only 30 DAYS after it was originally sent, ...AND just two days after I had given up and bought a brand new passport thinking I may not get to go away at all, which as Im sure you'll understand, I wasn't prepared to do because of their incompetent postman.

bad luck eh, so now ive had to fork out £129 for an on-the-day passport (as I sure wasn't about to trust the Royal fail to send it to me lol)

so is there anyhting i can do at all to reclaim some money, thats not just the flipping cost of postage?

I swear we should all rebel and start a new service and show them its not freaking rocket science.

no. the only service that covers consequential loss is SD with added cover.
however your post still doesnt add up.
how would you not get a card twice?
why would 2 deliveries be attempted?
as for its taking 30 days to return
most likely due to no return address on the item.
  • Its worth looking at your home insurance policies. A quick check of mine shows 3 options:
Lost documents (identity protection) including cost of replacement and cancellation of originals up to 1000 pounds
Travel insurance - lost passports up to 200 pounds per passport (might work)
Personal property theft - includes theft in the post - 1000 per item.

Not sure if 2 and 3 still apply but your costs may be met by option 1 if you have something like this? worth a punt.

Presumably you'd be better off directing these questions to the incompetents at Royal Mail who told the OP "they have attempted to deliver it twice".

My postman has told me in the post he doesn't bother carrying the cards.

    Phone call to royal mail?

    Same postman, same incompetence?
why would 2 deliveries be attempted?
They called RM and asked for a redelivery?

Is that a trick question?! You would not get a card twice if the postman did not post a card on two occasions.

Another trick question?! Presumably it's because it's RM's job to make deliveries. If a signature cannot be obtained and is required for delivery, then the delivery could not be made and would be deferred. That's how a delivery can be "attempted" but not actually made.

Perhaps, although I'm not sure how the OP could easily ascertain whether that was the correct reason, and if there was no return address how did they return it at all?

Royal Mail opens the letter and looks for paperwork with an address on it.
