It is very hard to work out what you're really saying.
You shouldn't really have left it so late in the day to have it confirmed but as you have and you can't go backwards, isn't it possible for you to go to the higher people and appeal to their better nature? You could sweeten it by saying you're willing to work all over new year instead.
If you're on a 0 hour contract, would they be days you'd definitely be working? Do you work set hours a week or do they change week to week?0 -
You could always 'arrange for your spouse to phone 10 minutes after you get to work to say the central heating has sprung a leak or child/relative has been rushed into hospital', then off you go for 3 days off.Never Knowingly Understood.

Or they could always just go and do the job that they are paid for, just a thought.;)Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.0 -
If it's hospitality involving food a little vomiting on the 23rd would mean no work until the 27th, with no sick note.... A bad back is a reliable fall back, a pulled muscle, depression, all guarantee a sick note should one be required but now you self cert for the first 7 days and some docs are hot on it. You don't get paid fro the first 3 days anyway, so I'd go for an upset tummy and Christmas off, which should be everyone's right anyway.0

So everyone should have the day off should they? who would man the fire stations or tend the sick or care for the elderley in care homes? silly idea. The only people who should be considered for a day off should be practising christians, most people dont even know what the day actually means.
Just to clarify i dont believe a word of the Bible at all i think it just a book of fairy tales.Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.0 -
It doesn't matter whether you believe in fairy stories or not, Christmas Day and Boxing Day are public holidays, the banks, offices, courts etc do not open, therefore the majority of staff get the time off, it is only people who work in retail or hospitality, catering for those who have the time off, who have to work.
Yes we need policeman, fireman nurses etc, the age old argument.. they work at night aswell and are not only appreciated but well compensated and paid more than the minimum wage! (they also get to book time off)
If our op is the head triage nurse of Accident and Emergency or First response paramedic maybe he should swap his shift with a colleague if its hospitality or retail.....0 -

Not over Christmas we aren't - no leave allowed the two weeks containing christmas and new year (NHS)0 -
Get real people. This is a zero hours contract.
It's not a job. Read my lips "This is a zero hours contract".Or they could always just go and do the job that they are paid for, just a thought.
That means it is a place you go to exploit an opportunity to suit yourself and the place you go exploits you to suit itself. That's not a job. That's a constant struggle unless you are the soft touch.0 -
nope im neither nhs hospitality or retail. And as for rota's there normally issued a week before christmas and your expected to work your own family life around it for 12 quid an hour and i cant just swap new year or christmas day i have to do both regardless0

I work two jobs - my evening/weekend role is zero hour.
Three weeks ago they canx my booked A/L for 'business reasons' (this was agreed 10 months in advance as we had paid for a weekend away in hotel/show and fancy meal with a group of our friends and family for my birthday.
I did try to swap, offer alternatives... but they refused.
So i advised as zero hour I chose not to take the shifts on that day.
I have not been on the rota since.
Its the risk you take. Please note I have a cognitive disability - as such my wording can be a bit off, muddled, misspelt or in some cases i can miss out some words totally...0
