Haven't bought any myself as my eldest has only just turned 6 and is not really into anything like this yet. He prefers his scooter and bike. But we have seen loads of kids at school wearing the strap on ones having great fun!

what happenes if the child has an accident in school whilst wearing them?
who is to blame? the school ? or the ever so not wronged parent for sending her dear child in with them on ?

never liked the idea of them for the simple fact that some kids are a nuiscence on them and it makes me roll my eyes at the parents not taking any notice of their kids on them.

yes i had clackers and rollerblades when i was younger but i could skate and others around me were aware i had my rollerblades on and we had places to go to use them.
these kids just take off at a moments notice and barge in no matter who is in their way.

Errr, I never said whether I approve of them or not! The OP asked where to cheap Heeleys, I offered information on where to purchase a similar item and the cost involved. I merely commented that the kids my son and I have seen appear to be having good fun using these products. Obviously the kids at my sons school must respect others as they were not being a nuisance or barging into other people. Surely it is each parents individual decision as to whether or not to purchase these for their children?

I recently read several comments on another forum about MSE and the way members speak to each other on these threads. Having seen several threads recently where the OP asks a question and gets flamed by everyone it makes me reluctant to ask questions or start threads for fear of being slated.
  • Suggest all you Heely fans read the papers. A young boy lies in hospital with brain damage as he couldnt stop going into the path of a car when wearing these contraptions. They should be banned.
  • Is this in the UK or USA?? wherever it may be, that is bad news for sure but without knowing any info, imagine an accident that could of happened on normal skates/board/bike, in fact just walking on a pavement, only news I've heard today is turkeys - not good

Im not an "oldie" for a start!!!
I just think that there is a time and place for these things, and the supermarket is not it! They look great fun, but whats wrong with the parents taking the child to the local park to use them? Oh - silly me - that would require the parent to spend some time with the child, rather than just letting the child tag along to the supermarket, as a lazy way of getting them exercised!
To be honest, I think its just about manners. Allowing your child to speed around the aisles in a supermarket - effectively using it as a free skating rink - is in my book simply bad manners as it implies no concern or consideration for other shoppers, especially the eldery or infirm, who can find it hard to move out of the way in time.
But then manners seem to be in very short supply nowadays. I worry for this generation of kids who are growing up with no consideration for others.
  • I have seen more accidents in supermarkets with trolleys !!! Amazing what trolley rage there is :rotfl: i have stopped going to the supermarket because some ppl hit others with trolleys , esp in the ankles or block the way so u cant get past !! I have mine delievered so i can spend time with my kids !!

My children have heelys and we just got back from a long walk , yes they was using their heelys , they got fresh air , we spent time talking to them , much better than them staying indoors.

No matter what children use there are going to be accidents , bikes , skateboards etc etc , All have been in the news at some point. I do tell my kids to be careful when going past ppl and they are careful . No matter what someone is going to moan about something !!

The road where the boy was run over was very dangerous according to his parents , they dont know if the heelys didnt help or not . he could of still been run over walking . I do feel sorry for them . I must admit with todays traffic i dont let my daughter walk on her own to school but when i was her age i was allowed too.

I do feel sorry for the kids today , they cant just go out and play like we used too .

Isn't getting old a great thing? Kids today don't know they're born, we never did anything like that, it was different in my day, these days kids have no respect, I blame the parents that's who.... etc. etc. etc.

Face it - kid gets killed while wearing Heelys - BAN HEELYS!!! Hysterical press jumps on a bandwagon. We never hear "Kid gets killed wearing a jumper -BAN JUMPERS!!!!" headlines. If some kids are being injured while wearing them that probably owes more to parents not teaching road sense or not supervising their kids than to a fault of the manufacturers.

We really are going to the dogs if this is all we have to worry about. If people really cared about children being killed they'd be outside Downing Street telling Tony Blair to get out of Iraq. Oh sorry, I forgot - they're foreign children so they don't count!

The reality is that Heelys are a fashion/fun craze that will last about a year then the kids will grow out of them!!! Do you think your kid is going to want a new pair or Heelys every birthday?
