I will put myself out there and join in this thread. first time for everything! Im sick of lazing about the house every night, WANTING to do this and that but just never doing anything. I guess I'm just lazy, but I'm only 27, I should be learning things while I don't have family to run about after!

So, that being said, my list of what I want to learn in 2012 -
    • I want to learn to use my sewing maching. This includes getting DH's new business premises open so the spare room will become my sewing room and not his workshop :T
    • I want to use my slowcooker. Had it about 2 years and can't remember if I have ever used it :o
    • I will get a veg patch in my garden. After spending about 10 weekends this summer clearing it out on my own, I will reap the benefits of my labour! I want simple things like potatoes, beans, salad veg. Push for a greenhouse to maximise growing (will get one off gumtree)
    • I want to do a bookkeeping course, or at least buy a book on how to do it, so I can do the books for DH's new business
    • Learn more conversational Italian. We were there twice this year and DH was showing me up with his language skills! Must beat him! :rotfl:
That's it for now I think.

Good luck to everyone joining in! And if anyone has hints or tips on how to achieve any of my goals, please let me know!

I've not been on MSE for ages but this thread has inspired me, thanks.

    Next year I WILL......

Become self employed again so I can stay at home with the baby (actually must start this year as I'm due back to work in feb:()
    Get more motivated.
Do as much work in house as possible
    Make the allotment more productive
Lose weight and do some exercise. Erm stuffing cheese straws as I type.
    Improve on crochet
    Sew more
Pay off as much debt as possible
Use time wisely rather than faffing and procrastinating
Learn to make bread - it's always awful.

TSB CARD, TSB LOAN, LLOYDS. FIVE DOWN, THREE TO GO.
  • I want to learn how to read and follow a knitting pattern, so far all I have knitted are dishcloths.
I want to learn how to crotchet and make a throw for the couch.
I want to re-learn playing the guitar, I haven't played since school. Also, there are 3 guitars in my house and nobody plays!
I want to make HM pasta, I bought a ravioli mould from a charity shop and haven't used it yet.
I want to make candles, my last attempt is still stuck in the mould, and my old, chipped slow cooker is still full of recycled candle wax that I had saved for years.

None of these things should cost much, I just need to organise my time better.
I want to de-clutter my house and simplify my life.
I too, want to learn Spanish (Hola Louise, me llamo es Nicki :))
Good luck to everyone in achieving their dreams, mine seem achievable, usually the only thing that gets in my way is me!:rotfl:

I really want to learn how to make lined curtains next year. I sort of know how to do it in my head, but the journey from inside my head to the finished article is a series of disasters waiting to happen!
I don't know whether it will be best to follow instructions from the web, get a book out of the library with step by step instructions, or to sign up for a class and actually make them under instruction. I figure the course will probably cost about the same as having a pair of curtains made, but from there on I'll know how to do it myself.
    Opinions gratefully received!

Ive always wanted to do a sewing course as well, just can't find a beginners course local to me. Suppose the MSE option would be library book or t'internet :-)

Good luck, and let me know how easy it is, would love to do that :)

Another thing I want to address this year is my chronic and crippling social phobia..... so what I need is to learn the arcane art of making friends.:o

  • My first post !
    No more lurking : )

2011 has been crazy, huge changes.
2012 is going to be about embracing new freedoms, being braver and really enjoying life.

    2012:
*£1 a day for Christmas jar
    *£1 a day for children's birthday jar
*Set up a regular savings amount, starting at £20 month, hopefully increasing to more as other spending is reduced.
    *make weekly meal plans
*get a "C" or above in my GCSE Maths retake
*aim for a HM Christmas in 2012
*at least one "meat-free" day every week
    *learn to drive
*get accepted into an A Level College Course
*start baking our own bread again and stick to it
*use all foraging/preserving opportunities throughout the year
*be brave enough to take the children away for a small holiday (it will be our first as just the three of us and I'm a litle nervous)
    *Improve my German
*Start skating again: try out with the local Roller Derby team
    *Sew more
*knit more and learn to use more than just garter stitch
    *learn to crochet
*celebrate my 30th birthday in style !

Basically, I need to make much better use of my time,
    Stick to a routine,
    Be braver,
    Try new things,
    And manage my spending well.

    I'm excited for 2012 just writing this : )

I want to be able to,
    1. stick to a budget (i'm one of the people who should have money at the end of the month but don't)
    2. Say no when I really do not want to do something
3.Not let children take advantage of me (grown up ones I mean)
