Wouldn't it be nice if we could get through a single day without someone suggesting something dishonest or illegal? My TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j0 -
I know the buyer is going to be successful and if I could check her feedback to see that she is a decent buyer I would refund her immediately. Because I have my suspicions I am tempted to wait and let paypal just take the money at the end of the period. What would you do?0

There's no harm in asking, it's the odd answer I have a problem withMy TV is broken!

How much is it for? I had one of these & it turned out OK in the end. Much to my surprise! If you can prove delivery then you have a chance with PayPal. If not - it's just a cost of doing business, isn't it?0

Is it in my interests to just refund now or do I wait for paypal to take the money on the due date?
It's in your interest to not refund until buyer has signed a statuatory declaration stating they didn't get the item. If they did get the item and say they didn't (in writing) then it's perjury.
The buyer is no longer registered and their feedback is private. Is this suspicious?
Yes. Probably a pile of negatives from other sellers they scammed. Even when their feedback is private you can still see the number of neutrals and negatives, just not the item number or feedback.
I assume I should refund and then claim against the post office?
You need the cooperation of the buyer to make a successful claim for non-delivery. This usually sorts out the scammers from genuine buyers.
Bit miffed the buyer didnt contact me to say it hadnt arrived before doing this but I know that is her prerogative.
Scammers simply make a claim with PayPal for non-delivery with no prior notice to the seller, while genuine buyers will contact the seller to ask when the item was posted as it hasn't arrived. You can tell pretty quickly if they are trying to make a genuine or false claim. Scammers learned long ago how to play the PayPal trump card to get items for free (there are even ebooks that explain the various PayPal scams) with a minimum of work."Money is truthful. If a person speaks of their honour, make sure they pay in cash."0 -
Digerati, thanks I have just worked out how to find the feedback percentage and its 97.1 so not that bad. Maybe its not a scammer??0

97% is terrible feedback so you are right to be cautious.
However, the important bit here is to remember that paypal will find for the buyer regardless as you can't prove delivery, so do not get side tracked thinking you can stop the paypal claim. However, the fact that buyer is claiming non receipt means you can claim from the RM for your loss as as far as you are concerned item has not been received.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.
