I'm really stumped what to get my 6 year old this year, ....he wants a box.... Just a cardboard box or lots of boxes
    relynutz says it all :o
  • All our almost 3 year old has asked for is a guitar, 2 cars and a t shirt. The guitar and amp was £35 from cash generator £8 deposit then the rest over 12 weeks interest free, he has a lot of clothes because i took full advantage of the £5 h&m vouchers. He also has A LOT of other things like a cars 2 car and trunki paid for with amazon vouchers from love film trials! To look at all his gifts people would think we have spent loads but we really haven't! I would say he has around £200+ worth of gifts but I'm sure we haven't even spent £100.

P.S he is already learning how to play guitar with daddy so it's not that random a gift haha
  • I try to spend about £100 on each - but I know I go over with stuff they will need anyway:T
I say "THANKS" to posts that make me smile - Oh and really good glitches.:j
Good things come to those who wait:A Bad things come on express delivery:(

I work in an after school club and if we ever get a large cardboard box then they all rush to play with it and have a huge amount of fun.

reading about the little boy wanting a box for christmas reminded me of when my two were little, every year they had a stocking and every year they wanted blu tack in it , they just loved it and would spend ages playing with it :)
  • Sorry, doesn't seem to let me quote (or maybe I just haven't worked it out yet)

    Anyway, Kippers said

"I wish we could spend more on them, but if they moan about not having more expensive things for xmas or birthdays, i give them the choice of me going out to work (coming home to an empty house after school, going to childcare in hols and no more friends round or hockey clubs after school, homemade cakes breads biscuits etc etc) or a limited budget on presents and me at home for them...they always choose the way we are lol

    (My dd's are 11 & 13 yrs old)"

This made me so mad I had to register and post!

I cannot see how 11 and 13 year old children are a reason not to work. You don't want to work. Fine, each to their own. But to tell your daughters such a pack of lies. I work full time as does my husband. My daughter has never had a ready meal in her life, she loves after school club, she has never missed out on seeing friends or doing activities, we also make cakes and bread.

My daughter is being brought up to believe that she be anything she wants when she grows up. (she's unsure at the moment whether she wants to be a police officer, prime minister or the tooth fairy). You are telling your daughters that they have to choose between working and bringing children up properly. Shame on you.

You even think what you are doing is funny with your "lol". You really should be ashamed of yourself.

Anyway, rant over and back to the question.

My daughter is probably getting about £100-£150 spent on her this christmas. I thought this was quite a lot until I read this thread! She is only 5 and also gets quite a bit spent on her by grandparents.

I remember two years ago when the big wooden dolls house was ignored and all she wanted to do was sit in the box and pretend it was a racing car. She has played with it loads since but it was rather annoying on the day. We also had lots of fun making the box into a racing car - wow us working parents even do art stuff with our children!

Have you seen the cardboard 'playhouses' etc on the tickseed website? Check them out at tickseed.co.uk

Pricey for what they are really, but so worth it and exactly the right kind of magical gift for Xmas morning, in my opinion. I am so happy my kids like playing with toys like this: Santa delivered the white igloo to our lounge a couple of years ago, utterly brilliant! Dd2 would also have loved the rocket (and the car they also used to do), but she was too tall by the time I found it (she's now 10!)
