I am sooooooo gonna show my partner this thread he is always moaning at me that I buy my kids too much. I start off with good intentions and plan on only spending £100 each, but I know that it ends up more like £200! Mine are 12 & 9 and this year they have got less because they want stuff that is more expensive. Mind you not sure why he is morning at me this year, he started off getting them a joint pressie for £50, but has now bought another joint present for over £100!! :rotfl: I was justifying it to him when I sitting up in the loft surrounded by gifts the other day, by saying I save really hard all year and they only get pressies at xmas and birthday! My two are even luckier because they get another £200 spent on them from their Dad.
Here is a funny little story my son declared the other day that he no longer believes in SC. So as we talking he suddenly said who buys all the gifts from Santa and I said that I did and he said WOW mum! thanks, but no wonder you are skint all year :rotfl: it was nice that finally that was appreciated and so sweet0 -

Precisely! I know someone at school was shocked by how much I spent on my daughter for her birthday (we got her a laptop as she needed it for school) BUT this lady admits to smoking 20 a day. How much is a packet of cigarettes? £5? So thats £1825 a year! I'd rather spend that money on my children that on something that might take me away from them.0 -
Bloomin' Eck - and we wonder why we're a nation in debt???
My kids (15, 14 and 4) get £45 - £50 each for their main presents at birthday and Christmas, and about another £20 on stocking fillers.
Until I was made redundant a month ago, we had a combined income of c. 65K pa but I would NEVER have spent as much as many of the posters here. TBH the older two (who are my step kids) don't whinge at all about what they get. They know the limitations, and appreciate the gifts (which they choose) as much as they do the ones from their Mam (who throws money around like no tomorrow but is about £25K in debt).0 -

Good for you. People who spend a LOT of money on their children at christmas are building in grief for the future....what do you think makes children spoiled and ungrateful?
Spoiling them!!!
Anyone who says, but I spend £1000 every year on each of my children for Xmas and they're not spoiled, they understand the value of money, and they're not ungrateful....is just fooling themselves, and they'll pay the price later. Or their children will, when they realise that actually, no, life isn't like that....0 -
I reckon i'll have spent about £350 on my 14 y/o by the time i've finished - but- the vast majority of that has come as the result of doing online surveys throughot the year & earning either cash or points to redeem for vouchers - my total 'earnings' have been just over £300 - I only redeem the earnings in October & it means I don't have to worry about putting money aside ...:)0

i cant believe the amount people spend on their children. im 22 and remember presents as i child when i was little id get around £10 worth of stuff e.g. skate, scooter, dolls and after me and my brother got older we get what ever a new game cost so £30-40. 2 times i remember having big presents i got a ps2 to share with my brother and 3 or 4 years ago we both got a new tv for our room ready for the digital switch over as well as neither of the built in dvd player works so i remember these gift more as they were one offs rather than every year. does a child really need £1000 worth of gadgets or would they still be happy if they got £20 worth of stuff0
