Is it possible to block a thread on this site? I keep clicking on this one thinking its a serious workplace issue, and it turns out to be this - for f**cks sake grow up and sort this out like the adults you are supposed to be - some people are being sacked, bullied and made redundant out there and you're concerned about a few pence for tea bags? Words fail me.

If you hover over the thread name it will show you the first couple of paragraphs. Then you don't have to open it if you don't wan't to read it further.
  • I'd just opt out of it and take a flask or coffee/ coffee mate because it will be a pain in the !!!! bringing milk in everyday.

I'd be similarly annoyed as the original poster.

As someone who doesn't drink tea or coffee, and who has been asked to contribute similar in the past, i have simply refused. £14 a month is a cheapo weekend away i could have wasted on something i don't use. When you feel underpaid and overworked anyway it is more than a right to have a moan about it

I work with a small team - 5 of us - 2 of us dont drink Tea or Coffee... we both drink water... the other 3 do... they have a system where they take turn about getting the supplies...

As for flowers... what we do is have an envelope and put what we can afford in it - and we have a friendly florest who always seems to give us amazing deals :)

I have to say I once worked somewhere where they wanted a contribution to tea fund - and I kicked up one heck of a fuss!!! I have never ever in my life drunk tea or coffee and I will not pay to drink water!!

And just dont get me started on smoking breaks!!!!

  • I once received an email from a client advising me to bring my own coffee/teabags and milk if I thought I might want a brew during our planned meeting. Their office had a tea kitty and as I wasn't in it they wouldn't be able to make me a hot drink if I didn't. :rotfl:

This flower fund they've got going sound like a money spinner, 50p a week off say 30 people is £15 per week, £105 per term, you can get a great bouquet in Asda or Tesco for £10/£15.
The lads in our place chip in £1 per week and that cover milk/tea/sugar, as much as they want.

you sound like a nightmare. Normal people would have just told them that they don't drink tea or coffee so there's no point chipping in,

:rotfl: mind-blowing! They weren't trying to impress you, were they!

One of my siblings had a job in a health authority, and an edict went forth that for health reasons biscuits could no longer be served at ANY meetings. So you might have a two hour journey to get to a meeting, and all you could be offered was fresh fruit. But at least they hadn't banned coffee or tea ...

Buy in bulk and freeze, then you just need to remember to get a bottle out of the freezer, milk seems to last longer as well.

Also you can get milk that has ben reduced to cut costs.

Or give up milk. i dont take milk, never have done, i would expect a reduction in my tea club money.

    :EDIT:
What an amazing insight into other people's workplaces however. At my workplace, and every workplace i have been in over the last 20 years, people go out of there way to treat others e.g. by cakes, biscuits or whatever. no one thinks anything of spending or homebaking. in fact it is a bit of a problem in that it affects the diet more than the purse!
