No they can't. But I'm !!!!!!ed if I'm going to waste any time explaining why!

but that is bonkers! If you have a box of tea bags and sugar in your desk draw and milk in those little things you get in coffee shops then how is that hurting the company?

I dont know, why its not hurting the company, but to be forced to contribute and told you cant bring in your own if you dont is a bit out of order

Previously it was free to the staff, but this was paid for somewhere along the way - presumably out of school funds (i.e. taxpayers !).

Many schools are able to generate private income, e.g. from lettings out of hours. They can spend this how they like (more or less), it's not 'taxpayers' money'.

30p per day! Why on earth can't the employer cover this and provide what is needed. What tiny percentage is this of even the lowest wage?

In a secondary school you will likely have around 150 staff. £225 per week, more than many term-time support staff earn. "Sorry, we're having to make you redundant so we can keep everyone in tea and coffee."

Though my school employer does provide tea, coffee, sugar and milk for all.

Well, it's not part of your contract

And it's not legally enforceable that you cannot carry teabags

So I think a non-sackable storm in a tea cup.

Depends whether a full risk assessment has been done.

Suppose one of the kids is allergic to the fibres from the bag......

This is pitiful, it really is.

The name on the memo is a person who has been put in charge of the tea fund by the head teacher.

Enforcable or not, I would imagine you would spend around £1.50 per week if you bought your own tea/coffee/sugar considering you will want at least 1 pint of milk a week. Pick your battles.

    I guessed that.

Is the person who has been put in charge of the tea fund a deputy head, or an admin person? Or a dinner lady? Head of HR?

i.e. - who in the greater scheme of things is the person who wrote the memo?
If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.
