Can an employer do this?

Should I be allowed to bring in my one tea bag a day?
What if I want a Lemsip?
Oh for f**ks sake!0 -
What can they do if you don't pay into the teaclub and take in your own supplies really?
My guess.... nothing.0 -
I think £14 is a bit excessive, most tea clubs I have known have been at most £5 per month.
Taking off the £3.50 flower fund, it's £10.50 a month for teaclub. If there are 20 people in this that's £210 - it doesn't cost £210 per month for tea/coffee and milk! They can get the cheap value tea bags.
How very dare you!! :-)
The tea fund may well have to buy a new fridge/kettle/coffee machine/mugs/cleaning stuff now & again - not just tea, coffee, milk & sugar0 -

.
it's £2 a week and £14 for this term as there are 7 weeks in the term.. It's not £14 a month0 -

My mistake.
I still however think that if people do not want to be a part of the tea club and take in their own supplies they should have that option. I think it's ridiculous to turn around and say if you don't contribute to the teaclub you can't bring your own supplies - it's then not a contribution, it's demanding.
AndyL - I quite like the value teabags, just have to dunk them for a bit longer but there isn't that much difference in tasteI used to take them into work.
As for possibly being to buy new kettle - yes that is true it may be a possibility but they could then not have the flower fund but use that for that kind of thing instead.0 -

i'd guess it's to do with people arguing that somebody has stolen their tea bags etc. If nobody brings in their own stuff there's no arguing,.0 -

I'm surprised teachers have time to drink tea or coffee, as they never stop rabbiting on about how hard they work and don't really have three months holiday a yearIt's taken me years of experience to get this cynical0

It never ceases to amaze me just how much time is wasted and bad feeling caused by this sort of thing.
30p per day! Why on earth can't the employer cover this and provide what is needed. What tiny percentage is this of even the lowest wage?
Keep in mind that if this is a school then this is presumably taxpayer's money you're making free with when you expect the employer to cover it. I work in a college that graciously used to provide this stuff for free and which has now stopped as it happens (at the suggestion of the staff when asked for ways to save money), and the cost of providing drink supplies was higher than you might think.
Suited me fine, myself and a colleague split the cost of taking in the variety of tea we both like and our own milk for ages anyway. No one said anything about us doing it either. Our choice. If they can't or won't then all behave like adults and agree a fair weekly contribution to whatever level of catering you feel is appropriate. And this is a school? Heaven help the kids!If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything0 -

Tea and Coffee are serious business in most [STRIKE]schools[/STRIKE] establishments.
I once bought a pack of 'quite decent' biscuits as a thank you for a bunch of army lads [we are talking guys in their 30s and above, not kids] who had lent me some equipment at short notice; gawd you'd have thought I'd bought them mud pies; they were so upset that I hadn't bought them a jar of coffee. If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it.
