MSE News: Carcraft hit by OFT action over second hand car sales

  • purchased a car from them in nov 2009.

found the car on ebay listed 400 quid cheaper. went in there, guy said, we offer the cars on ebay with 3 months warranty hense the lower price. had none of that and haggled down the car to 100 less which made it 5.2k

then when it came to purchasing, he passed me onto someone else who put me in a room with him then _really_ pushed the extended warranty. sold it to me as a "you wont need to pay for any repairs for x years" very small print excluded wear and tear! after going for it.

took the car home to find the back relay switch was faulty. sent it back to them for repair. didnt repait it. claimed they ordered in the wrong one and asked for it in to be rerepaired.

something that was odd, but probably their thing. they mot'ed the car 3 months after it had one?

car passed 2 mot's and failed the recent one.

overall, i've had a hit and miss service from them, but the pushly after sales wont make me go back there again.

    Next stop; CarGiant.

  • I almost got hooked in by my local CarCraft last year. I was about to buy a car from them, but something just didn't feel right, so I decided not to go ahead with it. I had a look online afterwards, and saw all the horror stories from people who have bought from them. That's when I realised I'd had a lucky escape.
  • I found exactly the same as Newgirly. The cars advertised were often £2-4000 more expensive onsite.
Their cars are priced quite highly - unless you can find the ones advertised. The salesmen will tell you all the ones you chose are sold BUT if you can find them yourselves (after getting shot of the first over eager salesman) another salesman will try to get you to buy it. You then pluck the details out of your pocket!
THEN comes the hard sell. Trying to get you to have finance and then extended warranties.
I have bought from them in the distant past but ONLY from the few bargain ones offered.
  • Were they Yes Car in a previous life? Because they sound like they are using the same underhand tactics, they were hauled up by the OFT as well.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

I bought my first car from cargiant a few years ago. I was lied to about my finance package was told my APR was much lower then it was and had a huge amount of pressure put on me for the extended warranty and other packages they sell.
Would never EVER buy from them again.
  • Just seen the remarks regarding Car Craft. I have just bought a car from them on finance that was in the showroom at £7.995 and was told that i could not have finance without taking the extended warranty, (£1495 extra). I then went to the bank and took a loan so as to pay the finance in full. Ten days later the amount was paid and the finance company not very happy in me doing so.
I then decided that i wanted to cancel my warranty and contacted the relevant depatment. They said that i did not have take the warranty in the first place and that i had to send a short letter stating the details of the car etc and i could have my money back when they got confirmation of finance settlement and my cheque for £1495 would arrive within 2/3 weeks.
I posted my letter straight away, (recoreded delivery) and waited a few days for a reply. To cut a long story short, i waited 6 weeks and numerous phone calls to them and also contacting the Ombudsman i eventually got my money back.
Car Craft, Ha. Rubbish customer service and mis selling of a unwanted car warranty. BEWARE OF THEM
