toyota starlet 1.2 1979 17mpg:eek:
nissan micra 1.0 33mpg
I think you maybe need to invest in a pair of lighter driving shoes ;-)Joe
As through this life you travel,
you meet some funny men
Some rob you with a six-gun,
and some with a fountain pen0 -
Old shape Micra (circa 2000) 1.0 L Petrol - 49 mpg
Old shape Vectra (circa 1997) 2.0 L Petrol - 35 mpg
Both on a 20 mile run including 2 or 3 traffic queues on the way. These mileages are quite consistent but get 2-3 mpg worse when there is heavy traffic congestion.0 -
"I think you maybe need to invest in a pair of lighter driving shoes ;-)" must stop wearing those high heels
oh and bigpaws you cant get a 3.2litre terrano0 -
Previous car - 1997 Fiat Punto SX, 1.1L petrol, 54 BHP (manufacturer reckons 43 MPG combined cycle)
Commute from Basingstoke to Andover, 28 miles each way, most of time spent on M3/A303, nearly every weekday. Fairly heavy right foot (such a tiny engine, needed plenty of encouragement). Averaged about 37 MPG.
Current car - 2004 Mazda 6 TS hatchback, 1.8L petrol, 118 BHP (manufacturer reckons 36 MPG combined cycle)
Same commute as above. With heavy right foot (old habits die hard ) could go as low as 26 MPG, or up to 33 MPG if I calmed things down.
Changed jobs in September 2006 and now commute from Basingstoke to Leatherhead. 48 miles each way, M3/M25. Traffic is generally heavy enough that I can't drive too fast and I get between 30 and 37 MPG. But I seem to be spending a lot more on tyres...
<preach>Not only does driving sensibly cost less, I find that I get to my destination a lot calmer. Constantly looking for gaps and having to brake for slower drivers :wall: is surprisingly stressful! Not to mention irresponsible, natch</preach>
When our baby is born, I'm going to swap cars with my wife and I'll get to drive her 1.4 Polo Match. When that eventually needs replacing, I'm going to push for a smallish diesel, something like the Mazda 2 (60 MPG), or the Seat Altea (51 MPG).0 -

Or maybe a locking filler capI have a cunning plan!
Proud to be dealing with my debts.0 -
I'm getting somewhere in the 25-30mpg area. I drive the car hard though. I could probably achieve 35mpg. Manufacturer's quoted figures are based on a simulated cycle. What you achieve in real life depends on how hard you drive it and how fast.Happy chappy0
