What MPG are you getting?

What are you getting in your cars MPG wise its usually well outside of the manufacturers claims.

I have an Audi A3 1.8T Sport which should only do 35mpg!

(Mpg 37.88) KM per Litre:13.41 Pence per mile:10.56
So 12,000 miles costs me £1,281.60.

If I switched to a diesel that gave 56.83mpg the annual cost goes down to £854.40!

I used this calculator to work the MPG out:-

  • I had the Quattro version that gave me 26mpg, then i put on 18" wheels, and it went down to 23mpg!

I then changed to a Golf 1.9 GT TDI, this has given me a 50000 mile ave of 49mpg so far.

These are all based on the on board computer, so they may not be accurate.

The bottom line is, it cost me £7000 to change the car, so i am never going to see a return on my money, but it's a nice feeling filling up once a month.I had to buy a second car because i changed my hours at work, and they clashed with my wife.I bought one almost 2 years ago for less than £500 on the Ebay, and it does 60mpg, i will run this until it dies, this is the only way to have really cheap motoring.

You have to work out the cost to change your vehicle.

  • manufacturer's mpg stats seem to bear no relation to the real world
  • With my Vauxhall Meriva 1.7 CDTi I'm getting better than manufacturers figures at 61mpg. (varying motorway @70mph/rural/urban).

Depends how you drive. Like a granny, or properly lol.

My car should get 47mpg. My trip computer tells me my average mpg, and I have got anywhere between 36mpg for a whole tank, to 52mpg for a whole tank.

Possibly not true if you have changed the circumference of the tyres your speedo etc could now be incorrect. You might want to check the distance between two points in a different car and then recalculate.
  • I'm not even going to try and work mine out. There's no point. Dh is learning to drive and sometimes drives it and obviously as a learner is prone to over revving etc so the actual MPG I get won't be accurate.

I get 28 MPG out of my Subaru legacy.
I am definitely planning on getting a car with better fuel consumption if/when I change it but as it's worth next to nothing then I may as well keep it until it expires.

I may well try to manage without a car when it expires as I have bicycle, motorbike, trains and legs at my disposal (as well as DHs car sometimes) but I would need to think it through to make sure I can manage in the winter.
