Curfew?! My mum would have laughed at that. School nights are for homework and school activities or organised sports. Not socialising.

But then I lived on a farm where there were no neighbours!

my son comes in at 9 on a school night and 10.30 at a weekend unless he is doing something special

My parents were really strict and I had to come in early all the time, 9pm on a weekend even when I was 16 and hated it so I have tried to be more reasonable wiht my son

Whenever the event finishes if it's an occasional but purposeful thing like cadets, a gig, film etc. 9pm for general hanging out at friend's houses.

The undesirable associates and refusal to eat meals en famille would concern me though.

When I was 15, curfews were 10pm on a school night, 11.30pm at weekends. By the time I was 16 I was out Thurs-Sun at nightclubs so wasn't home until 3 most nights and still got up for school on a Friday/Monday morning  My parents were lenient but I still managed to get school work done and exams passed, and held down a part time job.
The frontier is never somewhere else. And no stockades can keep the midnight out.

I am wondering whether the curfew is for your sons sake - or because YOU have to get up early?
I think for a nearly 15 yr old still at school - then 9.00 is reasonable if homework has been done! for special occasions then it should be negotiated. for weekdays that is.
for weekends or school holidays - depends on where they are going. not much point going to the pictures for a film starting at 8.00 if your curfew is 9.30 is it?
my mum and dad had very fixed ideas on curfew. even when I was 15 and working mum expected me to be in at lets see - it was 8.30 mon to friday (and the local stute had the live bands and dancing on a friday...........til 11.00) and she wouldnt budge! so, I stayed till 11.00 and though she tried to ground me - even locked me in my room - I still got out when I wanted to. and progressed to staying out all night........and inevitably got in with the 'wrong' crowd.
be very careful about rules and boundaries - youngsters need them, but they also need them to be REASONABLE!

I had a curfew of 9 on school nights and 10 at weekends. BUT i had to have my tea at home and do homework before i could go out, so didnt really go out til 6/6.30. Dad was very strict on sticking to curfews. I remember testing him and getting a days grounding for each 5 minutes i was late home. Was never late in again!

Wow! thats really early! but it depends on the cirumstances really i lived next door to my best friend so we went out together my mother always just said to me come home when ever my friend was due in, so as long as i had my phone on me and i text my mam or dad at 10pm and 11pm/12pm just to say where i was and if i was sleeping out or not, i had my own key so that wasnt an issue, but in general i came home at around 10pm, (unless i was at a party) because i need my sleep, i`m just awful without it.

Also as my parents are nurses and tend to work shifts i could go a day or two without seeing them, but even on there days off i was never made to eat tea with them it was more a case of am cooking XYZ would you like it at 6pm or shall i leave it in the microwave for you, at 15 i think you really need much more space to make your own choices about these little things.
