That's so impressive lula:T I'm trying to reach a target for MFiT as well as a 2013 MOP target. Even £5000 equates to finding an extra £416 each month:eek: I think I'll have to stick to £150 which X 12 is the same other board members MONTHLY MOP.......

    C'mon lottery:cool:

Don't worry, my target is 12 x £100. People like Lula both awe and terrify me!

No matter what your target is, the important thing is that we are all doing this for the same reason, to have give us some greater financial freedom and financial choices down the line.

I'm very fortunate that the business is going reasonably well at the moment, but also very realistic and aware that it could very easily change in an instant. Therefore saving or op'ing as much as I can whilst I'm in the lucky position of being able to do so is vital as I really don't know what's round the corner.

Not working for a company means I do not have any sort of redundancy or notice period to rely on should things take a turn for the worse. Also no sick pay should I not be able to work.

So, whilst I go crazy every now and then, for the most part I try and be sensible. Yawn.

I've not always been like this, until recently, I was like everyone else, thinking that a mortgage is something that you have for life and that's just how it is.

Calfuray - I terrify my DH too but that's another story.

It sometimes feels like a lonely single handed journey as DH doesn't get involved, but all f my lovely friends in here keep me company and keep me motivated! X

    Hiya Lula.

Panto was snow white and seven dwarves, have seen better but was overall very enjoyable. Just back from post panto tea at BF's (all go in a big group so 19 actually watched panto together). Kids still wired from the chocolate game and various other party games.

Your figures are very impressive and you ve done absolutely amazing so far. Im aiming for a £500 a month DD OP plus anything I can get from MS'ing. So for example if get insurance quote, will beat it and OP the difference. This month was a good one as saved just over £500 but last month was a lot less.
We are cashing in our last 2 endowments in Feb (to tie in with end of a fixed term) so will get a real early boost but then thats it, should cash in for £17000 so a nice dint to get us going.

MY DH is on board but I suspect Ive become a mfw bore so ditto that have lovely friends on here to talk to!

  • I agree with you lula, it is great to pay off as much as possible and am lucky that we are at the stage in our lives where we can afford to do this...but, really wish I had started this years ago when we were much more strapped for cash, even some small overpayments over the years would have made a difference. So dont feel bad if it is only a small sum now, just the fact people are financial aware will help in the long run.
    mortgage 1 33,000. paid nov 2012 :D. mortgage 2 87,000 due 51,686.76 at july 2013, but then:new home and remortgage ... £101065.43:eek: now 74k

Sorry, didn't mean that to come across badly.

You are an inspiration. I love this board, and how everyone comes together from 2p account tidy-ups to thousands being lumped in. It's amazing. I can't wait until I have a 'real' job and can play in the big leagues :D

What is your business, if you don't mind me asking?

I'm not being secretive, but I don't like to say too much personal stuff on the open forum as I'd be mortified if anyone I knew stumbled across my diary and realised it was me. My friends and family already think I'm mad when I mention anything to do with mortgage overpayments or spending spreadsheets! :rotfl:

You didn't come across badly at all, I do terrify my DH and several other people I'm sure, lol!! :p

Like everyone else, I hate it when I think about all of the years (couple of decades) of not being so smart financially. But, like we say, let's focus on what we can do now and going forwards and not beat ourselves up about what we did in the past.

Truth is, I think to a degree, we learn best from mistakes that we make, so perhaps a bit of frivolous spending in the past helps us see the importance of trying to change our ways a little.

Not so long ago I couldn't see the point of oping a £100 here or £50 there as I thought it wouldn't make any difference and I favoured the instant gratification of spending the £50 on "something nice" - but I too am now an account tidier and op'er of all things great and small.

On another note completely, whist I love my iPad, the auto correct is really starting to drive me nuts - some of the words that appear in my posts are just nonsense!

HDK - pleased you enjoyed, sounds like the after party might have even been more fun than the main event!

Calfuray is right, you are an inspiration:T:T:T

    Enjoy your arc building:D
