It makes me smile now, this virtual community of like minded folk and our journeys - the people who think we are mad, won't be thinking that when we are MF. What a great feeling that must. Having had a mortgage most of my adult life, first when I was 20, I cannot wait to be free of the burden.
People must float on air for a while until deciding what to do next.

Hi :j
you have my sympathies re: friend's comments about mortgage. I don't know anyone who sees the point of OPs except my dad who paid his mortgage off early. I have been paying off debt for the past couple of years and have found this website invaluable for support as sadly felt I couldn't talk to friends about it . SS0 -
Yes, it seems that any plans to save or overpay a mortgage need to be kept as a little secret and shared only on forums with likeminded people - sounds perverse doesn't it, lol!!0

Despite DH going crazy with the supermarket shopping, last week marked our best week so far in regards to spending and not going wild. Just need to keep it up now....
Been a strange day, no internet until half an hour ago as we changed supplier and had to wait for the new equipment to arrive. So, quickly trying to have a catch up. Flying early tomorrow morning, so trying to print off boarding passes whilst the little one runs around without a nappy on sprinkling all over the place, at the same time DS1 nagging in my ear to play with various electrical devices and DH trying to cook the kids dinner and repair the printer that is choosing the wrong time to be spiteful. Think I may need a glass of wine tonight, quick text to DH to ask him to pop a bottle in the fridge, I can't be bothered to get up off my bum and shout downstairs!!!!0 -
On the bright side, by the time I get back from the work trip, the OP's will have been made and hopefully I might be able to see what difference it has made, although thinking about it, it usually takes them a while to update the figures with the latest payments etc etc....0

DH sold some of the loft stuff which is good. We had an old pram from DS1 and he managed to sell to someone at work so thats a bonus, no need to bother with flea bay. It was such a monster of a pram that I bought a new one for DS2, I wasn't a crazy MFW 2.5 years ago so I got a lovely new Bugaboo Camelon which was super.......
Anyways, he has a few more things to list, so hopefully a little bit more money will be on its way.
I've listed one of my Mulberries, shock horror. It's the only one that I don't use and have never used and should never have bought. Unfortunately it's the cheapest of them all so I doubt I will get much. It's just a tiny little purse/clutch, but it all helps I guess, I've got 7 watchers and 2 bids so far, it's been on less than 24 hours, so hopefully this is a good sign.
I'm hoping to get a new iPhone through the business in the next month or so, so just deciding what to do with my old one. It's a 16gb, white, 3Gs and is immaculate, so should be worth a bit, perhaps I will sell this on flea bay too and put the money with my clutch bag proceeds.....
Then, I will need to overpay this off the mortgage before I get tempted to buy a nice new Mulberry bag in the Christmas sale.
Please send me some willpower!!!!!!0 -
Evening L,
Hope you're well. The naysay brigade seem a vast majority which only makes me glad that everyone we've ever talked about paying the mortgage off early with has been either supportive or jealous (in a positive way). I'm with your hubby on the treats. Moyra hides chocolate somewhere in the house and rations me a wee bit at a time. I do the same with her crisps and, strange as it may seem, it works ok!
Cheers,

Hi Billy,
I think I must agree, life would be somewhat dull and unfulfilling without treats! Let's be honest a bit of chocolate or some crisps is better for us financially than hitting the shopping centres!
Hope all is well with you, thanks for dropping by.
Best, L0 -
Got back from the business trip yesterday afternoon and was super tired. Well worth the trip though and spent some quality time with a very good client. Also, perhaps some new/exciting opportunities for 2012 with them, so good all round.
DH seems to have done well on the spending front whilst I've been away. And, I did well too avoiding the lure of the shops at the airport and spent nothing at all, so pretty pleased.
Going out with some friends tonight for dinner, so this will be a nice treat.
Overpayments made to the mortgage yesterday, just waiting now for Nation to update the balance and term so that I can see what difference it has made. If it drops below the £130k mark, I will be overjoyed......0 -
Hmmm, just realised that the OP's would not bring the o/s balance under the £130K mark so have scraped a few bits from each of my savings pots and made a further OP of £127, that should do the trick.......0
