Don't they just drive you mad....... What about a compromise, maybe do an online Waitrose shop, he gets to be delighted it is Waitrose, you get to control the list and perhaps it would work out cheaper that way?
Just a thought as I can imagine how frustrated you must feel.
Best wishes

Tilly, I couldn't believe it when he said he had spent £150, it was difficult to be too cross as he had brought back some treats for me too but I just have to accept that he perhaps doesn't take it as serious as me.
I love Waitrose, but I fear it would cost even more to do an online shop there as I would probably end up being tempted myself. I used to go to Waitrose for a little wander once a month and it always ended up costing me dearly. I didn't mind at the time and just considered it a treat but I wouldn't dare step foot in there any more!
I will see how it goes over the next few weeks and if it stays this bad I will start doing the shopping again myself. I work from home, so I can just run out one morning in the week and get it all done.

Last night I amended our Lovefilm to 2 at a time instead of 3, a saving of £4 per month.
Called to cancel multi room with Sky and they offered it for half price for 6 months, so agreed to do this. A saving of £5 per month. Will cancel it all together once the 6 months is up.
Looked in to the boiler service/repairs thing that we have with BG. It's finished next month and have decided not to renew it. Our house is only 5 years old and we have some sort of home emergency plan with our DL home insurance, this should provide us with what we need. So, a saving of £12 ish per month.
Need to see what else can go on my hit list........0 -

Hi L,
I know I shouldn't, but this made me laugh. I recognise that shopping style in myself - although not at £150!

£150 is more than we used to spend before I joined the forum and became a MFW!!!!0

Internet shopping is brilliant! It SAVES so much money because you don't get tempted in the same way that you do when wandering the aisles of the supermarket, so definitely give waitrose a go for a couple of months. If you don't feel you're saving, go back to the wandering the aisles with a list method!
There is normally a small delivery charge, but tbh that pays for itself. And I can't tell you how much time I save!
I am fortunate to have a lovely high street, so I do a big internet shop for store cupboard items every couple of months, and support my high street by going to the greengrocers and the bakers every week to top up. Much more pleasant than wandering around a supermarket for several hours each week!Borrowed £150,000 in an offset tracker mortgage in May 2007 - MFD May 2041 (67)

I did Internet food shopping for years but then knocked it on the head when is started to go to aldi's. S now, we do aldi first and then straight to tesco for everything else on the list. It's time consuming though and DH is always tempted to buy non list things. Trouble is if I do the Internet shop, I stick to a list and don't buy any treats - DH has to have treats so then ends up going to the Mr S just down the road and spends a small fortune over the course of the week.
No idea what to do for the best with this!0 -
lol... the logical thing to do is add some treats to the list!! Then you can buy them cheaply, in bulk, and hand them out to the OH when he needs them

Spent some time with one of my girlfriends yesterday, had a lovely time. Mooched around town for a few hours, didn't buy anything, just window shopped..... Then went for a nice lunch. Started to explain why I was "being good" with my (lack of) spending but she was totally confused as to why anyone would want to pay the mortgage off when you "have 20 years to do that", so casually changed the subject and decided to not mention it again.
I've decided that when questioned in the future as to why I'm not buying stuff I will just say that "I'm skint", as this seems to be much more socially acceptable than saying that you're either being good, saving or hoping to pay a bit extra off the mortgage. Bizarre!!
Sorted DH a couple of Xmas Presents from the kids today, so that's another tick on the list.
Just need to get everything wrapped now and buy the last few presents for the more awkward people.
Away tues to thurs on business this week, so will leave the purse strings in DH's hands!!0 -
