Each to their own. Personally I have no wish to merely "disguise" grease and sweat by powdering them. I find the idea disgusting. I'd rather wash my hair properly and make sure it gets really clean. :)

Each to their own is right, letting exercise dictate anything to you is not something I can relate to.

But it's better for your hair if you aren't stripping the natural oils away as often?

With dry shampoo you brush it out after it has absorbed the grease so it doesn't disguise it, it removes it. Then you've cleaned you roots but left the rest of the hair in peace
  • Silicones get used in premium hair care because a lot of people like the feel and appearance they give. I am not sure why Bedpotato thinks this isn't a real effect somehow.

But it is also true that a lot of people really hate that silicone look and feel. There are few subjects that are so prone to personal taste.

I suggest that as well as experimenting with premium brands you try using the products in different ways. Leaving a shampoo in contact with your hair for a few extra minutes can make a big difference. This is even more the case with conditioners.

Another thing to try is varying the amount you use. I acquired 5 litres of a shampoo I hated a while back (long story) but after a bit of playing around found a way that gave me the results I wanted. I will be quite sad when it runs out.

I do not understand what you mean. I was not saying silicones are "bad." Some like them, some don't. :)

All I was saying is that they're usually more necessary if you've got damaged hair.

Here is a helpful article about it:

Silicone on the hair is fine as long as you clarify frequently enough. :)

Letting vanity dictate how often I exercise is not something I can relate to, either.

Some people exercise less often because they want to wash their hair less often, or keep it from getting messed up.

Others (like me) have different priorities, and wash our hair more often because we want to exercise more often.

It depends what your priorities are. If some people's lives revolve around their beauty routine, that's their business. Mine doesn't. Fitness, well-being and health are more important to me than being able to go without washing my hair an extra day.

Aphogee have a good repairing 2-step protein system and its really quite cheap. You can get it from most Ethnic hair care type stores. Its not easy to use (follow the steps) but does make a difference if you use it once every other month and for about 2-3 uses (so about 4-6 months) its a long haul but nothing is the same really.

    .

I think that I've tried just about all the same treatments that you have (bit of a hair junkie Me) The thing that has best repaired my over coloured (every 2-3 weeks) and fried to death GHD'd hair is the Aphogee - but my OMG the smell !!! After doing the Aphogee, I slather on redkens allsoft heavy cream and leave on over night - next morning I have the softest, best conditioned hair :)

I have naturally crazy hair, very coarse, lots of it and it damages easily. I feel like I have tried every premium shampoo and conditioner on offer but found aphogee to be good. I usually pick it up on ebay.

My current miracle is a permanent blow dry/brazillian blow dry/brazilian keratin treatment or whatever you wish to call it. My hair now looks like normal people's hair and I am now at the stage that I can get away with getting it every 5 months or so and could probably stretch it to twice yearly without any issues.

    I've been Money Tipped!
I've recently gone the other way, buying a shampoo and conditioner in Boots after buying premium brands for a long time.

I've been low-shampooing for a long while, and had a big stash of shampoo and conditioner to work through, then, having run out of shampoo, but not conditioner, bought a shampoo from boots for my occasional shampoos and ADORED it. next time I was passing I got the conditioner and like that too.

I think the ones that suit hair are a bit hit and miss. My hair doesn't respond well to aveda stuff (but loves aveda dye), and ojon was a miserable mistake, but dh finished the horrid stuff off for me because he doesn't care, lol. Tigi has been fine for ages, before that redken was ok, and paul mitchell (where did that stuff go?) was ok before frizz ease overtook ''the conditioner'' as the answer to curls and WEN was wonderful, but the stuff I got from Boots will do me for a while.
  • I've been using a combination of L'Oreal absolute repair mask with their Mythic Oil. But if you're hair is REALLY damaged, see if you can find a cheap Brazilian Blowdry somewhere, you can get deals on Groupon sometimes for about £70 which is a bargain!
