Are they really worth the extra money? I've never tried anything other than supermarket/Boots etc. shampoos but I'm really frustrated with my hair and have been for a while. Highlighted for many, many years (I'm 50!) and the ends are looking really awful most of the time - dry and frizzy and strawlike. Yes, I know I should deep treat them regularly but what with working/children etc. never seem to do it.
Are there any makes/recommendations for super duper shampoos that anyone would recommend?
Thanks.:)

The only one I ever splash out on is the Aussie range of conditioners - their 3 Minute Miracle is fantastic, and well worth the extra indulgence. Even better is the fact that they're currently BOGOF in Superdrug with free delivery online if there's not one near you

I changed to premium about a year ago and wouldn't go back, I would recommend Redken So Soft for your hair type, I use the shampoo and conditioner in rotation with others and the butter is excellent too, I also use Tigi products for volumising and Kerastasse. Premium products last much longer as you use less and I find them much more effective. I still use Head n Shoulders about once a month. Ojon is a brand I'd like to try but I'm going to try Fudge products next time I need to buy some:).Thank you for this site MartinThe time for change has comeGood luck for the future0

The main thing you're paying extra for is all the silicone. High-end conditioners tend to be loaded with heavy silicones to make your hair feel and look softer and shinier. It won't actually BE any softer and shinier - it will just feel that way.
Excessive amounts of silicone are only necessary for people with dry or damaged hair. If you dye your hair or use heated appliances on it regularly, then you will need to pay extra for all the expensive silicones to mask the damage. If you have virgin (non-dyed) hair, you can get away with cheap and cheerful products because your hair will be naturally soft and shiny on its own (without you needing to cover it with gunk).0 -
I've tried everything from Frederic Fekkai to Bumble and Bumble and I find the Aussi range the best for my hair, I love it

Glowgirl, I got some Ojon from QVC. I didn't like it. It did nothing for my hair.
I'm now on Faith in Nature chocolate shampoo. I've also tried Liz Earle. They are both good but have little/no silicon in so I don't know whether you'll want to try them Loubylou.0 -
I've just tried a sample of the new L'oreal 60 seconds recovery and I'm quite impressed.. a bit expensive though, but might be worth it as I only used a little bit each time and got good results.0

The original formula of OJON were fantastic, but the company has recently been taken over by Estee Lauder and changed it for the worse. I have fine hair and am looking to replace my OJON shampoo & conditioner. Will try Aussie range and would like to hear any others that may be good for baby fine hair.0

i use aussie here too and its the best for my because it doesnt strip my colour near as much as the others ive tried. i have a bottle of tigi s factor shampoo and conditioner (£26 a bottle!!) i got as a present and it is amazing but i only use that about once a month as a special treat.0

Don't forget that what really agrees with one persons hair, another person will hate it. It depends on whether your hair likes proteins or heavy moisturising, also some people love coney products - mine actually goes dry and crispy very quickly (it goes to a weird texture like dolls hair).
Also if your hair is damaged at the ends the only thing that is going to help is a pair of scissors. Heavy cone products can mask a little damage. A serum is best for this though.
My favourite budget s&c are Inecto coconut (£1ish each from Homebargains). My favourite premium brand is L'occitane s&c (love them all but they are a treat because they are pricey).0 -
L'oreal Elvive in the pink bottle (long hair) is really great for my hair. Anything else I can't get the comb through it. The red (think it's for dyed hair) is pretty good too but not as intensive as the pink. Not as expensive as some of the ones mentioned above, but is on bogof or 342 so often that you can stock up :money:4 Stones and 0 pounds or 25.4kg lighter :j0
