    Hi sarah,
I'm also new driver passed my test 7 months ago. I'm 26 and the cheapest insurance I could get for my punto was £1800. Paying that over 10 months looked up prices now on go compare and can get insurance for £850. so the price will come down even after a year of driving.

i passed my test a year ago and have a T reg peugot 206, as i have a toddler i got a 5 door version for ease.

I paid £1100 for, and it cost me £1500 to insure it for 10 months fully comp (with my expartner on the insurance who had been driving 17 years and my dad who'd been drivng 30 years) Im a 26 year old girl and live in Liverpool! Alone i was getting quotes of £2300 mark. But needed my ex and dad on it anyway as they both do sometimes use it.

Insurance this year was £1100 for 10 months -however if i lived in wales at my ex-sis-in-laws it would have cost me £575 to insure it!! :( Joys of living in Liverpool lol So location does play a BIG part in the cost.

Insurance is so bad for where I live. If I lived the other side of town where I did before it would be £500 cheaper but I can't help where I live right now.

I'm going to try putting my dad on the insurance as he's had a license 33 years and not claimed for 20 years!

After looking at a million cars and doing loads of quotes on go compare I have managed to get a quote for £1500 on a Vauxhall Agila 1.2 estate. It's not the nicest looking car but all the reviews I have read so far say it's a good family car and cheap to run.

  • If you want an easy car to drive get an escort. Easiest car in the world to drive, anybody who can't drive an escort shouldn't have a licence. Simple as.

If you want something reliable get a skoda/vw/seat/audi.

    Don't touch French. Unreliable buckets.

Estates do tend to be cheaper to insure - not your typical 'boy-racer', new driver type of car, and much less likely to be nicked.
