    Thanks

I have been putting the excess quite hight (to make it £500 or even £650 with the new driver added)

I am not sure of the reliability of skoda/seat ext so have been looking at ford mainly

I won't be doing loads of miles as it won't be used for work just social driving around the city. I am a stay at home mum will that make a difference?

I've only been looking at fully comp quots

I'm not sure there is anyone I could name really? Do they have to live with you?

nope they dont have to live with you to be a named driver, all you have to have is their job title address date of birth period of license held, avoid those with previous convictions points bans etc.

SKODA AND SEAT AND VW are all joined companies, german reliability untill the most recent models, so with your budget they will be as reliable or more reliable as a frod would be.

skoda fabia, seat ibiza, VW polo etc.

i went a bit faR AS TO MENTION CHRYSLER unless you intend on spending out on a PT cruiser 2.2 CRDi (merc engines)

like i said think out of the box, some more larger family cars tend to be a bit cheaper on the insurance.
  • Maybe it's worthwhile spreading the insurance costs over the year. They add around 10% and normally 20% upfront then 10x whatever the balance is.

Try a Seat Ibiza, 1.2 comes out cheaper for insurance.
  • I just put your details into Go compare and came back with quotes from £800.

Do you live in Beirut or Liverpool ?

Do some test quotes on smaller engines. You might save a hundred going for a 1.2 instead of a 1.4.

I live in beirut and so need fully comp lol

I have been getting reg numbers of cars I like form auto trader and trying them in co compare. Living in the most hilly city there is I am worried that a 1.2 will be extremely painful to drive

I do like the look of the skoda fabia but I was told they can be expensive to fix so I have not looked at insurance for them. I am worried about getting a bigger car as a new driver.

The cheapest quote I can find so far is £1500 for a 1.1 clio or £1650 for a 1.4 clio

Skoda/Seat/VW are all still around the £1850

    So are clio's any good?

    skoda's not expensive to repair.

renault clio huh, well if you like buying coil packs X4 (called pencil packs as theres 1 per cylinder 4 cylinder =4 pencil packs recomended to be replaced at the same time if one fails), once a year or so. clean out the throttle housing £40 or have a new one when it fails for about £250 fitted by a indy, have the depahser cam done when powers lacking (1.4 16v VVT engines 2003 on)costs about £250 for the depahser timing kit and then about £160 to have fitted, gearbox stabaliser bars go quite often at about £35 per go and about 20 mins labour and have a lifespan of about 12000 miles or about 1 years worth of driving. electric windows often play up, stereo often goes off and stays off then comes back on when it want to, plastic seat trim to adjust hight (if fitted) often snap off, so you know what to look for and know what you get yourself into with a renault.

    Nope.

Particularly if you want a family size car.

I would see if you can get a volvo or an estate car if you are carrying children as you will need the room for all their stuff.

I know two people who claim they had estate cars as their first cars. Very amusing to think of someone in their late teens/early twenties driving an estate with no family.
    I'm not cynical I'm realistic :p

(If a link I give opens pop ups I won't know I don't use windows)
