I've managed to sign up (used Visa card), but like others have said I'd prefer for my whois info to remain private. I'm having trouble changing my administrator info (the bits that display on whois) as it resets to the original every time I try.
Despite my cynicism I did actually get a reply from microsoft.... their suggestion was as follows:We apologize or the delayed response. (site said 4 hrs, i'd waited over 24 so thought i'd not get a reply ever lol)
I'm Jeff from Microsoft Office Live Support.
I understand that the changes you made in Domain Manager were not saved.
I know how important it is for you to accomplish this. Let me help you.
When I checked your account, the administrator e-mail address for your account is xxxxxxxx, not xxxxxxxxxxxx (i'd put a different one in my question form). Please sign into your account as xxxxxxxxand try to make changes in Domain Manager.
Just reply to this message if you need further assistance.
...only problem is I was signed into my account, it still didnt save:rotfl:0 -
I dont think I would use this unless it is only for a short term domain as the charges from MelbourneIT after the free period are far higher than other providers. The fact that you can register a domain elsewhere for about £6 for two years makes this far less appealing. In my experience you will either not use the domain in which case you are wasting your time or if you do use it you will end up paying more in charges when the free period is over.Your really can not beat a good bargain !!!0

With MS Live Basics your domain is free INDEFINITELY.
If you read the t&cs when it comes to renewal time, Microsoft will renew it automatically and at no charge to you.
The only unknown is how succesful this incentive is to them - if this programme fails then they could feasibly pull the plug on it somewhere down the line.
More likely though is that this is the first and other companies will follow suit in a bid to have your web activity centred on their platform, with all the benefits that entails for them. I say this, because I read that Microsoft pay 6 dollars annually for each domain they give away free under this scheme - it's really not much for them.0 -
awww i want one,

does this offer still work?
do you have to use their online page editor, or can I used MS Front Page and ftp them?
Do you have to have loads of their branding on the pages?0
