Dunno yet. Trying to get explorer to be compatible with the website at the mo!

Getting hundreds of pop-ups as I clicked 'prompt' not 'enable' on the internet settings.
'Do you want active scripts to run'.. Yes,yes,yes!..

It also makes an 'active X script' run on the page..what does that mean?
I presume some are safe and some aren't(not sure what they do?) but microsoft is ok I guess.

Any chance I could hire (for free ) one of you guys who have already done their website, you're all too fast/clever & I have a lot to learn. :)

    I feel like a tortoise!:rotfl:

These are great for free. But why is it free? What's the catch?

You will find out in the future no doubt. :p

My first theory is that they are trying to get people onto explorer and not firefox.

If I cancel my Microsoft Office Live subscription, can I keep my domain name?

Your domain name will be registered with Melbourne IT, our domain name registrar, with you as the registrant (owner). If you cancel the Office Live service, you maintain full control of your domain name through the Web site of Melbourne IT (https://www.melbourneit.com.au/). However, you cannot transfer your domain name to another registrar for 60 days after signing up with Office Live. Note that once you cancel your Office Live subscription, you are responsible for paying the annual registration fee for the domain name.

    Just read this.

How do you close it completely if you wanted to dissolve the website? Do you have to pay for it for ever more?

I think the domain expires in a year (according to whois).

Although someone did get charged $65 from Microsoft on another forum:eek:

So much for being FREE.

What I'd do to be on the safe side, is cancell your bank acount and open another one - or is this not possible?

Hi. Just read a bit more and it seems that as long as you continue to use office live (not cancell it) they wont/shouldn't charge you.

Thanks James. (melt at the knees;) )

I think I may give this one a miss and try find a very 'cheap' website. I don't have enough financial back up to take risks.

p.s. After reading the thread you refer to 007 I am even more put off! Charges and restrictions to microsoft products, which usually cost a lot it seems; unless, probably, if you are a fellow native of Bill Gates and prob. get USA reduced microsoft charges (likewise to them getting broadband free and vista dead cheap~grumble grumble).

  • The domain is free indefinitely. And signing up to Basics has no hidden costs. If you're looking for a 'catch' with this offer then here it is:

    1. You get a Microsoft Office Live badge in the bottom right hand corner of your site, and you get a Microsoft search engine in the top left. I find them fairly inoffensive.
    2. If your website really takes off you may need to upgrade from the free Basics package to their monthly payable packages to get more capacity and more flexibility.
    3. You have to use Internet Explorer to edit your site.

There's 3 ways in which Microsoft benefit. Plus, your on-line hub - your website and email - is with them - just like banks nowadays will offer you 6% interest and £100 to get your current account and be the hub of your finances.
