How do I find out when I passed my driving test

For the first time this year I have been asked for the date I gained my full license.. well this was over 25 years ago.. and I can't even remember the year!
My license only says when I got my provisional and nothing about the date I got my full license.
There is no help on the dvla.gov.org.

Has anyone else come across this and have an answer?

Thanks

Jane

  • My license has a 'date of category B test pass' printed on it (and that was 24 years ago, so similar vintage to yours)

If it is a photocard license - mine has the 'From' date of each category as the date I passed. 16-04-85

I passed mine a few months after my 17th birthday, but I didn't send the licence back until the provisional one I had ran out at the time, so the dates on mine are wrong anyway.
Beyond twenty years or so it doesn't make a lot of difference. If you can't find out, and no one else can, I go of the date the licence was issued to me.

Hi, I have been asked this several times on car insurance quotes and have only ever guessed the year and the put june as mid way through the year.

I guessed 1975/1976 because I had a short period on unemployment around then and remember taking lessons while off work !

I don't think it is a real issue as the pass date is so far in the past, I have never had any issues with my guess-timate.

Try and remember something that happened in your life around the same time to give you a rough guide.

    Mine's easy
19 days after they removed the grandfather rights for C1/D1 on a normal test pass :(
So annoying that i have to take additional tests now if i want that. lol

The date you passed your test will say at the back of your photocard driving licence.

I'd say that if it is over 25 years, then just stick to 25 years. I doubt that it will be of any material difference to them.

I remember when a senior citizen buying a bottle of wine was challenged for proof of age by an overzealous shop assistant. His response:

"I'm over 80 if that helps..."

I wonder why insurance companies don't ask to see proof you've passed a driving not just ask a date.
I have a relative who has been driving for over 30yrs and never been near a test centre.

A lot do ask for a copy of your driving licence now when you take out insurance. I just had to supply a copy to one, first time in over thirty years.
Even more ask if you have an accident.

Not always. My parents (who passed in the 80s) have something like "<xx/xx/xxxx" on the back of theirs. Can't remember the exact dates but it is not the dates when they passed their tests.
