I've had a horrible horrible dream and I'm also cold.

My partner died 14 months ago of a very form of cancer.
About 4 months ago I had the most vivid dream that he was still alive!
Won't go into more detail as I'll bore you
however, this dream stayed with me so much that I couldn't go to work - I felt sooooo wierd! Until I actually talked to someone about it it didn't go away.

Horrid feeling:o
That must have been awful. Waking up to the reality after a particularly strong dream can be very disconcerting.
I am very much the same, I need to get the thoughts out otherwise they seem to fester somewhat and I can't move on very easily.Herman - MP for all!

Dreams are a play on the thoughts/worries in your mind.
Anything from seeing an image or watching a movie that some part of it stays in your mind or if you have any worries in your life (who doesnt) but these sort of things can trigger unsettling dreams.
I remember when I was in my late teens I'd have nightmares off being tied on a train track or something and a train kept comming towards me. I could move but felt the fear it felt really real. Every time it was just about to hit me it would start again back at a distance comming towards me.
Dont have those dreams any more.
Definately talking about them helps once you talk about it sometimes you recognise how silly some are and makes you realise its silly to worry about them. Everybody has scary dreams, be as content and relaxed as you can be going to bed and you'll have a better chance of not having a horrible nightmare.0 -
Good morning all (just, only an hour to go till its afternnon, lol).
Sorry to hear about your bad dream OP. It is horrid to have ones like you describe. Often bad dreams are your subconcious working through worries or concerns you have. Are you worrying about anything to do with your daughter at the moment?
I had an unsettled night, last night too, hence laying in this morning to catch up on sleep. I think my bad dream was caused by seeing that terrible road accident on the news last night.
What is your bedtime routine like OP?. Do you take time to relax and unwind before going to bed or are you dashing around getting things done before sleeping. Take some time out today and relax, get things into perspective a bit and chill out. Hope you have a much better sleep tonight.0 -
I once had a dream that my husband cheated on me. His reaction (in my dream) was to say that it was nothing so I should stop bothering about it. IRL he would be gone, I'd be devastated but there would be no forgiveness. In my dream I was begging him to stay, saying he could see other people if it meant we could stay together etc.
When I woke up I was so cross with dream me for being pathetic and weak, and dream him for being a complete !!!!!!! that I took it out on him all day. I wouldnt let him touch me, didn't talk to him unless I had too. I knew it was irrational but I told him why and apologised.
I think it shows that we all get a little bit strange!0 -
I suspect mine was the warped result of some thoughts I had before going to sleep about how I felt 'not in control' of something.
In my dream I had no control over the men who had my daughter.
My dh is a psychotherapist and uses dream analysis in his work. He's not here at the moment so I can't ask him to comment but, from what he has told me in the past, he'd say that characters in dreams are often representative of parts of ourselves, eg your daughter might represent your own inner child who is feeling vulnerable or impotent at the moment. This would fit in with you feeling 'not in control' before you went to sleep. Your dream may have nothing to do with your daughter in real life (so you don't need to worry about her in any way) but may be much more to do with how your own inner child is feeling and may be giving you clues about what you need to do to help yourself feel more in control.
When Jungian psychotherapists analyse dreams they ask the person to think about what each character or object represents to them (in Jungian theory there is no 'one size fits all' dream dictionary).“A journey is best measured in friends, not in miles.”

Hopefully as the day goes on the images and the vividness of the dream will fade. It's scary how our minds can do that to us during our sleep, and it's not like it's something we have much control over. Sometimes you can see it as the mind trying to tell us something, other times it just appears to be some random thing.
@mumoftwins I am sorry to hear of your loss.0 -

I had a best friend called Wayne, who was a chicken that occasionally turned into a Michael Jackson impersonator. Whenever I felt sad or low, Wayne would sing the chorus of "Loving you is easy 'cos you're beautiful" and make me feel better.
I was inconsolable when I woke up to find that Wayne didn't really exist and that I'd never see him again
And yes I do see how ridiculous that sounds but it really seemed so real at the time! :rotfl:
:rotfl: it's a good job DH has gone to bed, or he'd be asking why I'm having fits of the giggles.pavlovs_dog wrote: »I know it's very silly and immature, but watch this. I challenge you not to laugh! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=teNgQTrv6pE
alias, get yourself a small portable fan heater for moments like this morning. We've only switched our heating on today (and yes I know I'm not in the frozen north, but this is late for us, and it's only gone on because DH is feeling poorly, everyone say "ah, bless"). But now there's only two of us in the house most of the time, it makes more sense to heat the lounge and freeze everywhere else.
I would really have liked a Dyson Hot (so would he), but they are a ridiculous price, so I went to the library (honest!) and read the Which reports for November 2011. I've gone for the De'Longhi tower fan heater they recommended, I usually hate fan heaters, but this is better than any other I've used. You can have it oscillating, and set it to switch off when it comes to temperature, and have it on a time to switch off or come on (but I haven't done that yet). It's not too noisy either, and if the dog knocks it over it will switch itself off.
Something else I got today is a fleecy wrap / shawl with pockets, from The Works. I haven't tried it out yet, because it's going to be a Christmas present, but it looks good, and I do like pockets. Better than a slanket because you can walk round in it safely. I have various hand warmers, they'll be going in the pockets. And my wheat bags go round my neck. I'm all set!Signature removed for peace of mind0 -

I like your style, buy your own presents, that way you're sure to not need to take them back.:rotfl:
I'm visualising a person so 'layered' and covered with 'stuff' that arms are out to the sides and you can't move.
(I do realise you don't have that much on btw, I just have an active mind.
)
I got a couple of electric fleece throws after seeing people talk about them on the 'get ready for winter' thread. I gave them to the kids to wrap round them when they were sitting in their rooms for whatever reason. Need to get another I think as they do seem very effective. Just a bit pricey if you're buying more than one.
I had a good sleep last night I'm pleased to say (well as good as it gets when you keep getting woken by people going to the toilet, going for a drink and coming home from work  ).
