Hi Tilly, I think the rate depends on where you are based. I have an independent cleaner and she charges £9ph in South London.

The cleaning companies were charging around £10, but keeping £3ph for themselves. Would MUCH rather the extra money went to the cleaner, tbh.

However she only does 3 hrs a fortnight  so with as many hours as you are requesting, the rate may be lower.

If you are in South London, I could put you in touch with my cleaner. I know she is after extra work.

    Afternoon Dawn, Weronika and Sepa

Yep up extremely early and then off to visit relatives as well so it's been a busy but rewarding day. Back home now and need a mint tea - too much food. Having lost weight my appetite and ability to eat has changed.

I will definitely look at gum tree, never thought of that at all.

Sadly Sepa, further north that that otherwise I would PM you. Would really prefer a cleaner which can be recommended so I am going to ask a friend whether she knows anyone.

Weather is glorious now but when we left we had to de ice the car - weird day.

Off to sit in the garden now and enjoy the sun before it disappears.

    Best wishes Tilly x

Another vote in favour of cleaners from me! I know I only work part-time, but I'm a single parent, and I got to the point where I wasn't coping with the housework and it was really getting me down. As I saw it, the only two options were to get a cleaner or to reduce my hours at work to free up more time to clean the house myself. Since (a) I don't enjoy cleaning and (b) I get paid at a higher rate than I would need to pay a cleaner, the choice between those two options was a no-brainer. I managed to find a friend who had a cleaner who was looking for extra hours, and she's great. Good luck finding one to suit you. :)

Thanks to everyone who posted cleaner prices. Sadly no-one seems close enough for a personal recommendation but the price info definitely helps me feel more confident in looking for someone and knowing going rates.

Evening, I have been on gumtree and found a couple - have mailed them and given them DH mobile number. That phone is rarely used so didn't mind using it.

Have everything crossed. When I look at what I do for a living etc yet i am still trying to do everything. DH is great and does lots of things, but I tend to do the planning, which anyone who has read my diary won't be surprised to hear:) All in all something has to give and yep, when I look at my salary, it makes more sense to pay someone and let me get on with clearing the mortgage.

I have left a message for a friend who knows everyone so she may be able to help as well.

We have not bothered with dinner as too much lunch - kids have had a great bike ride but today I have failed on the dog walky/run. I will be off early in the morning to catchup though :o

We have all had a fab weekend with much laughter. DH and I feel quite blessed with our kids. Apart from DH and the state of his bedroom, which drives me mad, they are extremely good fun and capable young people. There was a moment today when I caught a glimpse of them in the future and it was beautiful to see. Who knows which path they will take in life, but they have good solid foundations of right, wrong and fun. To be confident and determined at that age is lovely. I feel quite emotional typing this and no, it's not the wine!

Have a great week. Hard to believe it is Monday tomorrow and April already - I started this diary around Bonfire Night last year -where is the time going?

    Best wishes Tilly x

  • Morning, have had a little money switching taking place this morning :T. We are now half way through our 8% FD regular saver. we opened it as soon as my salary started going into FD, which was well before the mortgage switched. Although we will have to pay tax on the savings it will be a help come September.

Just about to get ready for a dog walky/run and start a new day. It is very rare that I ever think I don't want to go to work but as the children are off today I would love to be at home with them. No good dwelling on that I have to crack on. I guess when they leave home having a career which keeps me flat out, will stop me missing them :)

I am thinking, slowly, about doing some additional training. I have a wee dream which may allow me to leave work earlier, well when MF. Not right after they leave home but within a couple of years. I am a very giving person which is quite tricky with my current career - I believe there is something in me which needs nurturing so will be leaving this ticking away in the background and see what happens for now. Possibly more to follow.

For now I need to jump up, grab my kit and get outside.

Have a good week, Tilly x

  • Have a good day and good luck with the cleaner quest!
Paid off mortgage nine years early in 2013. Now picking and choosing our work to fit in with the rest of our lives!
Still thrifty though, after all these years:D
