Afternoon, what a glorious day - windows wide open, all upstairs has been polished and I've sorted all the drawers in our bedroom.

    Kitchen is coming on well.

Half my jobs are completed, I added a few more, hence I still have to hoe - no lady jobs going on here GG :rotfl:

After this I'll finish the menu plan and print :)

So far today 4.4 miles achieved - not much in comparison to what I used to walk or cycle, but it's a step in the right direction - pardon the pun.

£3 PC survey in the bag :)

    Spring - welcome :T

Ok, I need your help please. I need a fool proof system for filing post and receipts.
It sounds like a stupid question, but we have received a bill today and Mr tc says we have already paid the outstanding balance and we're up to date.
I thought, no problem I check his cheque Stubbs against his statement...easier said than done! I can't even find his bank statements and to be honest, he's a bit lapsidaisical when it comes to post.
So unless I can implement a foolproof system-we are royally stuffed!
    Help. Please?

Folders - I have one with 31 dividers and I use plastic sleeves and as each bill or statement comes in I put it in a sleeve in date order and them deal with them like that normally once a week.

I have folders galore and a concertina one for receipts for my accounts and again I out the receipts in there and check them against the statements.

    Thanks Hurdler. :)
I'm sure we have folders galore. I will hunt them out and try to find all his post and painstakingly sort it out!

  • Hi TattyCath, is this for personal spends or business? If it's personal I would recommend a spending diary. At least that way you can record what's spent where, when and why.

If you want to keep it simple then just have one place for all money things to go, receipts, statements etc and at least you don't need to hunt. Maybe initially just use a wallet folder for a month or two, one for business and personal and see if that helps.

Anything like this sadly comes down to having a place for everything and being consistent. It is boring but it will save a lot of effort later :)

    Hope you're feeling ok?

It's for business. I've already tried to get him to use a spending diary for personal-but I might as well talk to the wall. :(
I should be thinking of money making ideas for damage limitation purposes.

Internet banking is the answer - then save the statements as pdf or xps. Most of my bills are internet only as well. And I have a spreadsheet to keep a record of all due bills, which I change to bold when paid. The odd paper bill gets filed in a folder, one every year, but only once paid and I write paid and the date on it.

I'm a bit anal really, or maybe it's because I'm a Virgo :rotfl:.
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

I think I'd prefer him being a bit anal about spreadsheets and organisation than being so laid back, as that makes me worry they he isn't on the ball about things or in control.

I'm with GG. The more of it's electronic, the fewer bits of paper there are to lose. :o
Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. (Link permitted by forum team)

Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.
