Hi Tilly, goodness you diary moves at a pace but I'm all caught up now

All the plans you have just published look smashing and I've no doubt you will suceed :D

When I was first reading your thread I saw you mention looking to sell some of your old gold as well as thinking of making a jewellery piece up for your DD, how lovely that is and I'm sure she will treasure it. I've received one piece of bespoke jewellry which I love but I know people who have had their own made and I understand from them that it is quite and exciting and pleasurable process to do so I hope you find this too Tilly

I long ago got out of the way of wearing gold (not that I had much mind) and now prefer all things silver, unfortunately when I say silver that also means things silver colured e.g platinum and white gold :o

I have resolved to go through my old gold jewellery and see if there is any to sell. I can say in full confidence that it is more than 14 years since I last wore it as my 'special' jewellry collection was one of the few things I left at the parents when I left home that is still there and has never somehow made it's way to my house and as I left home 14 years ago...

Deep breath as I now explain what special means...

When I much younger and much dafter I had a thing for good costume jewellery, I know for a fact that there is a watch in my collection bought in 1989 that cost £500 and another bought the same year from an Italian designer that cost £400, there are several other pieces and several pairs of earrings that were in the £100's :o

Does anyone know whether there is a market for this sort of things and where one might start to look to sell it?

    Regards

  • Hi ATT, your special jewellery sound amazing. I have no idea what to do with it, but I am pretty certain someone, somewhere on MSE will know. Does sound like you could sell some and have a handy OP up your sleeve, just waiting to go.

I know the frustration of waiting until pay day - for some reason, it seems very slow in coming round, yet Christmas and the New Year, I thought would make it whizz round. Anyway, good luck when you get to switch your funds around.

I am secreting my money away in readiness for my March switch, and to enable me to OP two months worth on the day after we move - woohoo that will be fantastic and I CAN'T WAIT - yes I am shouting.

Have a good night and keep up the NSDs. Tilly x

Crikey ATT, that's some bling you've got there :rotfl:. No idea where you should look to sell it, though ebay is an obvious place to look - I know someone who sold some v expensive pottery on there so it's not just for [STRIKE]tat [/STRIKE]bargains.

I have my engagement ring from ex-oh and late mum's engagement ring and would like the stones combined. I did have a design done which was lovely, but they wanted about £750 to do it, and that was including an allowance for the gold , so I didn't go ahead. However, I am planning on doing it this year somehow :o.

Tilly - how did you select your jeweller? Birmingham is closer to me, although I do go to London for work, but I don't have a clue about how to select a jeweller :(.

Thanks Tilly, I might also contact an auction house and a 'good' jeweller in my home city for their thought too

I don't blame you for shouting lol, March and April are going to be amazing months for you and I think I'm excited for you too :rotfl:That's something else I like about this board in that we also have a sense of pride and joy at each others achievments, it's funny how this happens with strangers on an anonymous board and those close to us in real life don't think the same way

PS, Tilly, I put something on my thread for you but I'm not sure whether you have seen it. I was asking if you had investigated forward exchange currency contracts. It's a long time now since I've dealt with them so I'm afraid I can't give you any detail but it may be worth invesigating with your bank or broker to squeeze a bit more advantage out for you with regard to the money you send abroad

    Mortgage-free Glee!
Hi TwinnyD, thanks for taking the time to pop by and have a read. I will check your new diary out.

FD are fab and I can't rate them highly enough. For the 8% regular saver (for a year) there are some 'rules' which I can't recall exactly but I think one was to pay in £1500 per month, but I can't remember if that had to be from an employer or just from anywhere.

Good luck and any meal planning hints, just shout as I love doing those bits - sad I know.

    Best wishes Tilly

I think FD are great to, moved current account to them nearly 10 years ago and have never had any problems. Had to deal with Spanish bank for MIL, lots of problems!
Not sure meal planning would work as currently do 3 different meals most days to cope with fussy eaters :(
  • Hi GG, funnily enough I know the jewellery quarter in Birmingham and London well. However, in this instance I have found a local lady in a little village not too far away, who specialises in bespoke jewellery but at realistic prices.

She is vey creative, and she will need to be, as there are are a variety of stones, but I will enjoy my engagement ring and wedding ring from ex H being used. Sorry :D

I hope to have enough to make a small OP after sorting it all out. I think DD will be delighted.

    Have a good week, Tilly

    Hi Gally

You must surely have the Birmingham Jellewery Quarter on your doorstep which I believe supplies much of the UK's items? I would have a look at their website and see if they have any special references to commissioning pieces

In terms of advice - and I speak mostly from ignorance here - I think the common sense approach should apply, visit the shops, people, ask to see things that they have already made, understand their charges, time-scales and processes, ask if they have any previous customer references you can look at, how long have they been in business, can they give you a book of designs to choose from, aide your thought process etc etc

Do you have any friends that have done this that could give you a recommendation you can trust?

Hi ATT, I absolutely understand what you mean about pride in each other. I post on quite a few diaries as I can't help myself, I feel delighted that so many people are having a go:T.

I saw your other post regarding FEX and I have handed that over to DH as a project. In order to really win we have to have some cash up front and right now it's all earmarked. This won't always be the case though. He has undertaken to investigate.

Am just off to make a cuppa as DH has popped out for a well deserved break from me bending his ear:rotfl:
