  • Final money update given my bulk buying exploits. I have started a new savings pot for bulk purchases, that's for my loo roll, dishwasher, washing machine probably, tins etc. This way I can take advantage of the deals, then benefit over the year.

I am switching £20 a month in to start with and I'll see whether I end up saving overall. I hope so as I am looking to close the gap by December 2015 :)

If I remember right vinegar is a great conditioner ?

Also I'm kinda keeping my fingers crossed track does the same deal as last year in kendo coffee ... It worked out ( with coupon) £1.50 for a resealable bag ... Mucho bargainous :) ... You sound like me in that respect I like to keep money but for that as well ... I have a freezer full of butter currently ... I like to use butter in cooking but the price makes my hair curl ... But I managed to get 500g blocks for £1 of both anchor and lurpak ( the gorgeous Rutger advert ... Drooooool) when I see it in special I usually get about 2 dozen or so :)

Tilly there is a thread on the food and groceries board about washing powder. Someone on there buys sacks ebay that are filled with washing tablets that have been powdered down. thelaundryhousemaid is the seller I think, seems to have very favourable reviews.

In the interim, Aldi's Almat is a good housekeeping recommended buy

Ooooo have you thought about soap nuts ? Much much cheapness in the washing front
  • Elantan, looks like I will be heading over to your diary for shopping tips. I buy loads of stuff in bulk and freeze - I don't think I am too good on coupons though and need to learn more.

Dog food is the other killer - we have two big hounds that eat a lot so maybe I should increase my monthly bulk food amount to cover that.

  • Funnily enough I saw soap nuts on Am@zon today and had no clue what they were, so I'll look into that.

Hi Pavlov, I buy Almat already (the 2 in 1 purple one), but I am hoping that bulk buying from somewhere could reduce the cost. As our food budget is very controlled I don't think there's much opportunity to cut, but I realised the other day I could benefit from bulk buying cleaning products etc. If over the course of a year I could save £200, plus the two free council tax months, that's another £600 OP each year. Who knows whether it will work but it's my 2013 challenge

Cleaning products deff go to the OS board ... They can clean your house with a squirt if real lemon a microfiber cloth, bleach and stardrops :)

Soap nuts are great although I don't use it for my heavily soiled stuff ( I'm sure it could be used for it but I wouldn't) someone worked out a few years ago it cost them £5 for the year to wash their clothes

I've never quite managed that but I have saved a fortune using them as they can be reused several times :)

One of my friends always buys her looroll from Amazon swearing it's cheaper - you do realise I'm going to be peeking in the cupboards next time I'm round to see if she's got this many?:D

Love OS board but I hate Stardrops! Much streakiness :(

Was in asda today and they had velvet for 38.9p a roll ... I nearly wet myself laughing thinking of the 320 rolls Tilly has ... If I had my way I would have them as well ... I am known to have a loo roll " issue" ( think it stems back to when I was a kid and used to visit my friend and we had to use cut up newspaper ... Not pleasant )

I looked on amazon out of curiosity but found it to be either more expensive or the same price as the deal I got in tesco yesterday..... Plus, I only had to buy 2 X 9 packs to get the great price....

Is the immense amount of loo roll because it saves money or because it doubles up to provide insulation in the garage?
