  • Morning, dog walk/jog completed, I will only average 2.5 miles per day this week, but if all goes well, I will be back to 5 miles next week. I am being careful at the moment.

Hi Peonie, I think it's a ridiculous amount of money but it does include the conservatory as well, which we spend most of our time in. I also feel bad for cancelling as well. We can clean the upstairs windows from inside now which is great and I am going to be happier OPing the £15 :rotfl:

I keep debating about cancelling ours. Our w/c is £16, doesn't include the 5 loft windows (but they're easily cleaned), the garage window and the window sills outside on first floor don't get cleaned - can't seem to find a w/c who goes up a ladder anywhere near us nowadays - they all use extendable poles, which isn't as effective :(

Mine use a pole, it just does not clean as well.

  • Hiya, I think it is all down to health and safety. I watched the guy do them recently and it was ridulous. Half not scrubbed with broom on pole, just loads of water sprayed on the window. No more thank you - money already set up to OP each pay day. :T

  • With much careful control of the budgets (for everything), plus good insurance quotes, I think we may have £1k extra to OP. I won't know until I am paid in just under two weeks, but that would get us down to £262k after taking offset into consideration. £12k away from next goal. Will see how the next two weeks go, but pretty sure it will be ok. I will have to check when I thought we would hit the goal, but I think I said October. If that's the case, we would in fact would miss the £250k and be at £246,500 by October payday. :j:j

You cannot imagine how much I want to get it starting with a 1. It seems interminable right now. From my very quick mental maths (yep mental is right) I believe we will be sub £200k in July 2013. This time next year I can post £199,750. Still a huge figure but one that is heading in the right direction. It is going to be a challenge to hit April 2016, as by rights it should be June 2016. However my plans assume no pay rises or bonuses over the next few years, so they will be used to bridge the gap of £11k. If not, then I will be selling things off in the Tilly household to make sure we hit the target.

Right, I had better start work.

    Best wishes Tilly

  • Evening, just a little recap. I know that I am on a mortgage free journey and a half, but whilst the numbers may seem different, how we approach the OP process, in terms of reducing spend elsewhere, to increase disposable income is the same. How we then utilise the disposable income is the key. When I look back from 2004 to 2011, it shocks me how much money we wasted, however, from March 2012 to December 2012, we will have cleared 75% of the amount cleared in 8 years. That really demonstrates the benefits in changing your life in a very tangible way.

I must be feeling philosophical after a busy day, delicious meal and much laughter over the dinner table. I feel most blessed to have found MSE, to have made some virtual chums along the way, and to know that we are killing this debt. A mortgage is a debt like any other. We have had car loans in the past and I have always saved up the money and cleared them quickly, but never considered Oping the mortgage - why not?

Our kids have bank accounts, savings and ISA accounts, and NSI bonds. My advice to them has been to save 50% of everything you bring in (pocket money, birthday, Xmas etc). It is great to see that since November last year, they are both actively doing this. Let's hope they don't make same mistakes as their parents :)

    Night, Tilly x
