I'm feeling particularly happy today, all because of eBay. I wonder if you ever wonder how happy something you sell on there can make someone? My hubby has wanted a certain *no longer in production* Barbour (he collects them like me! lol) and I saw one on eBay a few days ago, listed for 10 days and I knew it was going to go mad ie: incredibly high if it went to full auction plus it would have finished past his birthday. I checked how much money I had spare and sent the seller a message asking if there was any chance he could change it to a buy it now for me and would he accept my offer as I wanted this for hubby's birthday. He'd bought this particular Barbour for fishing and tried the hobby and didn't like it. Was barely used, genuine and I offered him a 1/4 of what it was worth. He said yes! I was jumping around with joy. It arrived a few minutes ago with the Posty - its perfect! in incredible condition, barely used, genuine and just what he wanted. That guy no longer wanting it and making a bit of money will make my hubby very happy tomorrow. Just thought I'd tell you my wee story as I know you are selling on eBay when you can x

Thats a lovely story, thankyou, I love a good story. What made you both start collect Barbours I wonder ? I bet Mr Wifey will be really pleased with his present.

I always think about the people who have bought our items, particularly the childrens clothes. I imagine a little girl desperate for a pretty dress or a cosy warm coat. I always wrap them in pretty crepe paper and put little butterfly sprinkles in the parcel as if its a birthday present. It is apparently really appreciated due to some of the messages I have received. It makes me happy to think the children are pleased with their new clothes . :D

Today my postie has delivered me a letter from M£S telling me I have broken the terms of my payment arrangement with them, therefore it has now been cancelled.

I'm sure this letter has crossed with my payment to them and letter of last week, but to be on the safe side I have just written to them another letter and asked them to re instate the agreement.

This is all so time consuming, but better to be safe than sorry xx :D

Hi Pinot, I have spent the last few months reading through your diary ( don't get much spare time, not that I can't read properly, lol). You are a really amazing lady, and I'm truly amazed at how you've kept your sense of humour with everything you've been through. I wish you the best of luck.

Well, it goes back to when we first met. I was a city chic type of gal, he was a rough, tough soldier :D (I liked a bit of rough back then, nice guys were boring lol) and he had this old Barbour coat that he had had years. I thought it was the ugliest thing I'd ever seen! He suggested I would look *gorgeous* in one ah hem! I told him where to go and suggested he change his job so he could afford my designer habits as no way was I ever wearing Barbour (I was horrible and spoilt back then, sorry! :p) anyway ... cutting a long story short, we got married 3 months later ... he told me his dream was to live in the middle of nowhere in Wales one day. I said I would never leave the city. But .... some 10 years later I took a day trip to Glasgow (all that Scottish stuff going on ... kilts, haggis, bagpipes, it drew me in and I fell in love for the 2nd time, only this time with Scotland :T) I ended up touring Scotland for 4 full years. During a year living in Inverness (and popping back every month to see hubby who had to work) I bought my first Barbour jacket - brand new, costing a fortune and I fell in love with it. Over the next few years I bought several more styles - all brand new including my first gorgeous long green trench (very stylish!) and it started from there. I arrived back from my touring of Scotland to announce we had to move to Scotland. A year later I found my dream cottage in a rural village and we bought it. My Barbour collection continued to grow. I team my Barbours with my designer boots and it works! but nowadays I love more my walking boots, my Gore-tex and my Barbours (I have a lot!) last one I bought was a few weeks ago a brand new Ladies Durham (bought with the sale of the unwanted gold, remember?) and hubby bought me a Barbour waxed leather Tarras bag for Valentines Day - told him to stop wasting money on flowers, they die. In Scotland I live in Barbour, in England (as we still have a home in England at the moment until he moves to new job in Scotland in few months) I wear my city clothes. I'll be selling a lot of those when the move in complete. So, its his fault and Scotland's that I love Barbour.

One of my best bargains on eBay was a vintage Barbour that I bought on there, sent it off to Barbour in South Shields and their magical ladies re-waxed it and it came back looking like new. So I have new Barbours and one's I've bought from eBay that I revamp. Its fun.

If someone had told me at 20 that I would wear Barbours one day I would have laughed.

I think how you wrap your eBay parcels says a lot about you :A and how you care that you bring some happiness to someone that day. You probably made someone smile a whole lot, what a nice thing to do x

It would be nice to think so, you never know how needy people . Some are after a bargain but others genuinely need some lovely clothes for their little ones. I wish I had done it years ago instead of giving it away to people who didn't really need it. Ho Hum ! I think the family thought I was crazy though on DD1s birthday rummaging through the recycling bag incase someone had thrown away a particularly pretty bit of tissue paper (I think I said crepe paper earlier, I didn't mean that !) that I could use for the ebay parcels. :D
