I know exactly what you mean about the earth mother thing. It is so lovely at the time but as soon as I actually think that everythings right with the world some catastrophe befalls the loubylou household.
The only thing i was smug about (and it came as a result of me failing to do something) was on Christmas eve. We had friends round (bring your own- we did it once and now everyone expects it) Anyway it was all very pleasant talking about what we were doing Christmas day etc.
Then somebody mentions DS1's birthday which is also Christmas day and horror upon horror I realise that for the first time I had frgotten to buy him a cake.
Poor lad its the only Birthday thing he has really. Anyway we had the 'will one of the garages have one?' debate, friend no1 offered her husbands cake (it was his birthday xmas eve) much to his disdain and friend no 2 offered her husbands cake (birthday boxing day). His face was a picture.
I declined both and when everyone had left I decided to make one myself. 1am it was still in the oven! I had decided to make one large one instead of a sandwich cake and as you said Pinot every time I got it out it was a wobbling mass.
But eventually it cooked, I decorated with chocolate butter cream and a crumbled flake and they all said it was delicious and that I was a good mummy for staying up to do it. Its so rare I feel like a good mother that I soaked up all the praise - better than any xmas present. That shows how sad I am!
God don't I go on? Better go and cook tea.

No you didnt go on ! It was a lovely story and just goes to show what a good mummy you are even if you dont much feel like it all the time !! The cake you made sounds like our favourite one that we trawl out if we have forgotten someones birthday ( a Tana Ramseys one I think ) . Actually its DD2 that gets the Panic Cake job as hers always taste lovely

Stop you're making me feel good again;) especially as i've just finished ironing my duvet cover:TDMP mutual support member 3970 -
Well it's a scientific fact that it costs the same in electricity to iron your bedding as it does to boil a kettle. And it takes the same amount of time to iron the bedding as it does to sit in a comfy chair and drink your tea. Still, your choice.......:D
